This was my first time buying from autoanything. The online sales rep was great! The AFE air intake is Amazing! The growl from the enging is impressive along with the TBS. there is a slight whistle. I chose this set up over the volant air intake. I am very happy with my selection.

only real problem with the intake its self is the screws that mount to the stock air box are easily stripped with little pressure.. Now my main issue is comes with the way your intake was worded I was under the impression that I was purchasing a stage 2 cold air intake because of the way it was worded in the in the listing, and was very disappointed after receiving product. but that's my fault for not reading close enough, just some feedback..

Nice throaty sound at WOT. Don't know if I have gained anything in HP/TQ(need to dyno to see). Maybe I have gained 2MPG, but not sure(I do a lot of highway driving so that is probably why). Either way, I am very happy with how it sounds and looks. It's also cheaper than a lot of other intakes.

Seems to have more power at full throttle and quitter than a K&N cold air intake. Too soon to have an opinion on mileage change. Installation was easy however some of the instructions were wrong for my 2011 Tundra.

Installed with no problems. You can hear the turbo spool up more then before. Not so much that it gets irritating. Have not seen what it has done to mileage yet but any time you let an engine breath better it turns out more power and better fuel economy.

Assuming I get a kit that requires periodic filter oiling, how often are we talking about? Assuming it's a periodic requirement based on mileage and dirt/dust conditions? Is it as simple as cleaning the filter and re-oiling? I've never used a filter that requires oiling, anything else I need to know? Thanks.
Answered by Nathan S. — Apr 04, 2013 8:45 AM
Hi, Filter cleaning really do depend on the conditions you're putting the filter through, but with normal circumstances, it would be a good idea to inspect and clean the filter every third or fourth oil change if needed. Cleaning is simply washing the filter out with approved soap and warm water and applying a thin coat of oil to the outside of it once it's dry.

Answered by Nathan S. — Feb 26, 2013 11:48 AM
Hi, The honest answer is your stock intake. Performance intakes eliminate the sound baffles that prevent the "whooshing" noise because they cause restriction in the intake flow. Most intakes can't be combined with a throttle body spacer too. The spacer moves everything attached to it a distance equal to its thickness. So, a relocated intake won't clear accessories and won't line up with the filter location.

Hi Tommy, The best intakes for mileage and power are ones that use a nylon or molded intake tube. We sell numerous brands like this but with filter styles that require different servicing. An oiled or dry filter both flow great, so it comes down to personal preference.

Answered by Michael K. — Oct 09, 2012 10:40 AM
It really depends on what you want from the kit. No matter which filter you choose, the intake kit delivers the same horsepower and torque numbers. According to aFe, the Pro Dry S delivers “maximum convenience with no re-oiling,” and the Pro 5 R delivers “maximum performance with maximum airflow.” Also, if color matters, the S filter is grey, the R is blue.

Just installed your cold air intake 54-10531, noticed a kind of sucking/ hissing noise. Is this normal? I checked, and rechecked and fit it to spec?
Answered by Nathan S. — Aug 08, 2012 2:29 PM
Hi Taboe, The sound that you describe is perfectly normal. Your factory intake was quiet due to the restrictive baffles built into it to prevent noise. As a side effect, these baffles also hurt your Tahoe's performance and mileage by restricting the airflow into the engine. The sucking/hissing noise is the sound of the air running through the intake tube and entering the engine. It sounds like you are on the right track to maximizing your Tahoe's performance and mileage. Many of our customers start with a cold air intake such as yours and see a 1-3mpg increase depending on their driving style. To take performance and mileage to the next level, complete the package with a cat-back exhaust system and programmer.

Is this a good product to get for my fj cruiser?
Answered by Nathan S. — Jul 17, 2012 10:49 AM
You're probably guessing that extra power, cooler temperatures and improved gas mileage can't all come from the same product. Guess again! Performance air intake kits can help your fuel economy in this wallet-gouging, price-per-gallon era by helping your air to fuel ratio get in line. Because you're getting more power from every drop by burning more efficiently, your engine uses less fuel at all times - city or highway. On average, drivers will see a 1-2mpg improvement. There's a catch, though. Many drivers trade their limiting air intake for a performance air intake and can't resist using every bit of the horsepower and throttle gains. They'll drive like mad to the grocery store. They might peel-out at stoplights. Or even race the cops. It's called hard driving, and it's the fastest way to burn-up the gas mileage improvements provided by a performance air intake. Your best bet is to keep your driving habits relatively unchanged, enjoy the extra power at the pedal, and collect on the gas mileage savings. For even greater engine efficiency and energy, match your new intake with a performance exhaust system and a performance chip. You?ll go flying past the pump with this trio of power-packed accessories.

I'm trying to decide on a CAI system for 2007 4Runner V6 and I basically have it down to K&N Series 63 or aFe. Can anyone say if one would perform better over the other for this vehicle in terms of HP and fuel economy? Or perhaps there's another brand that would be better altogether? Thanks
Answered by Nathan S. — Jul 09, 2012 7:32 AM 1995 Ford Explorer
They are very similiar kits, so you wont see a radical difference in performance between them. I would recommend K&N for the quality and warranty of their kit. I believe K&N invests quite a bit on testing new kits, so they tend to be more refined that other manufacturers kits.

What does a cold air intake do?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Jun 08, 2012 10:40 AM
Hello. Thanks for asking, that’s a great question. A cold air intake has a tube that moves away from the engine to be able to bring in colder, denser air for more power and better economy. Most often the filter end of the intake will wind up positioned behind your bumper. A short ram intake will also help that 2.0 to breathe better, but being a shorter piece it will be drawing that extra air from a greater proximity to the motor, and therefore the air will be warmer and less dense, resulting in less performance than the complete cold air intake. Thank you.

With that said, you may consider putting in a performance drop-in replacement filter which will be a nice upgrade from that disposable stock one.

If you can afford a 2011 Hemi why are you so worried about mileage? Anyways, You might see a tiny tiny tiny increase in mileage that will hopefully offset the cost of the filter. But hey we all do it! And we all feel better! I think once the filter is in we also forget about the mileage part of the sales pitch and try to find out if we gained One or two H.P.!!!!!!!!!! Also add a fancy exhaust for better mileage, yet it sounds so nice when I floor it........All in all mileage probably gets worse.
