This part was listed on the AFE site as compatible, but not on some other sites. This fits the filter frame, but the gasket is a bit thicker than OEM. My fuel economy improved over the OE paper filter, by about 1.5 mpg highway.

The morning after installing the AFE filter I was driving and suddenly realized something was different about the performance of my car. I drive a 2000 BMW Z-3. The filter I replaced was clean so there was no decrease in performance due to clogging of air intake. My Z is more responsive on acceleration and pick-up during shifting. I have not yet checked for mpg increase but even if none, I will be happy with the increase in performance.

It looks great and installed easily but it makes a whistling noise at certain points that is very annoying. Its not the cool noise a turbo makes but more like an old man sucking air through a gap tooth. Not sure I can learn to live with the noise, might be going back to OEM filter shortly.

This is an EZ, DIY, no-brainer IMO. Beats having to replace the cheap OEM filters regularly. It'll be 2 years before I have to clean it, then I get to forget it again. I actually felt a slight boost from the better air flow too!

You wont need to worry about this filter falling apart or ever needing to replace it with a new one. This thing is built so well I'm surprised they are not standard.

I installed my air filter in my 530i and immediately noticed a difference. Not only does the exhaust sound deeper due to better air flow but the accleration seems smoother and im sure it will obtain better gas milage as well!

With the AFE air filter now installed and having driven my BMW 400 miles, my gas avg mi per gal has gone from approx 28 mpg to 30 mpg. not to mention better throttle response.
