More pick-up....less MPGs

Reviewed By Charles D (Bowie, MD) Reviewed for a 2014 Ford Flex —5/26/2014 8:37 PM

I put this in a brand new 2014 ford flex after I drove it about 2,000 miles to get a baseline mpg. As soon as I installed the AEM filter I noticed a slightly different throttle note. Not much. My MPGs dropped from 16.8 to 13.4 - same exact driving route. Acceleration is slightly quicker, in my head? Maybe. Without a dyno who knows. I took a long trip got 18 mpg, well under the flexs rated 24 mpg. Only have 3400 will keep it in and see what happens. Any suggestions?

K&N Filters

Reviewed By William D (Madison, AL) Reviewed for a 2009 Ford Flex —11/6/2013 10:38 AM

I have used K&N Air Filters on several of my vehicles over the years. Always a good product and bang for the buck. A new quality disposable filter can cost $25...if you replace it yearly then a K&N pays for itself in two years or less.....

Impressions on results of aFe Pro-Dry air filter

Reviewed By John A (Mount Juliet, TN) Reviewed for a 2009 Toyota Tacoma —11/21/2014 4:59 AM

With only a very few miles driven after the addition of the aFe Pro-Dry air filter I would have to say there does seem to be an improvement in acceleration response, although no clear evidence of an improvement in mpg. More miles will tell whether initial impression of response and/or mpg is correct.
