Description

Increase performance up to 18 horsepower, add 40 lbs of torque and even save gas mileage with the Volant Cold Air Intake System! The rocket scientists at Volant have truly outdone themselves with this one.

The Hi-Flow Velocity Air Box breathes in oodles of performance-enhancing air via the massive air duct. Many Volant Cold Air Intakes also include an enclosed air box that takes power and efficiency higher. Some drivers even report an increase in gas mileage by 1 to 2 miles per gallon. What's more, it can take less than an hour using standard household tools to replace the old, suffocating factory air box.

Best yet, Volant gives most vehicles a performance filter choice: the original high-performance cotton-gauze filter with cleaning intervals of 35,000-50,000 miles, or the all-new oil-free PowerCore air filter, requiring maintenance after a whopping 100,000 miles.

"I figured since it only takes a few minutes to take out the stock airbox that it would only take a few minutes to install this intake too. Wrong. Plus there were a few things that made me scratch my head about this kit. First thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box, they screwed their logo on upside down! But the thing I didn't like was that the web site says they use PowerCore filters, which was one reason I bought this kit since I do NOT like oiled filters. And of course they don't make a PowerCore filter for the TrailBlazer and it came with the filter that they say should be cleaned and oiled every 12k miles. Wonderful. The install was straight forward though, just attach the filter to the tube first because if you try and attach the filter after the tube is attached to the resonator it will pop out. The other thing that made me scratch my head a little was the holes in the cover didn't match up very well to the holes on the washer jug. So I had to drill one of them out a little bit. In defense of this kit however, it is an aftermarket part and most aftermarket parts like this don't fit as good as stock parts. As far as intakes go, I would say the Volant is the best though. Overall, I do like the kit though. It seems like I did get a little extra power and a little more noise at WOT. I'm not sure about economy gains yet because the first fill up after I installed this kit screwed it up because the pump kept clicking off and I didn't get the tank filled up all the way."

Installation on a '92 Chevy Silverado with a 5.7L

"Fast delivery, excellent price from AutoAnything! Overall quality of this air intake was excellent. There was alot of tweaking to get everything to fit properly. I had to remove my underhood retractable light from the inner fender to get the airbox to fit properly. The threaded rod to hold the air duct in place had to be bent to achieve proper alignment of the airduct. The gasket supplied for the TBI did not fit and had to be trimmed to work. The duct to airbox interface needed several attempts to get enough airduct in the airbox to allow the filter to fit properly. Kit included 2 strips of gasket seal for the airbox, neither were long enough to make it completely around the 6" hole. Finally I had to bend a bracket that was attached to my manifold to allow clearance between the airduct and my electrical harness plug/connection. All in all not bad, looks great, no performance numbers yet to pass along."

"Fit & Finish were really good. Much better than what others have described on the message board forums. Definitely changed the sound of the engine under full throttle. Nevertheless, I am really impressed with the quality of the intake. Although specific; e.g. step by step directions are not included, it was simple to install. Really, none are needed."

"I have a 2005 Ford F150 supercrew 4wd. 5.4L V8. This truck definatley needed to breath better. Noticable power in the 3000 RPM range and throaty. The only drawback so far is it tends to resonate in the cab of the truck at the 2000 RPM range. I will put an insulated sleve of some kind to see if it drowns the sound."

"You can feel the extra power right away! Installation was easy except for getting the filter onto the tube. It fit so tight I don't think I really needed to use the clamp but did so anyway to be safe. My Hemi sounded great before but now sounds even more aggressive! Also, the airbox looks really awesome, especially with the stainless cover! Thanks, CRADAYTONA"

"I have yet to note the actual horsepower gains & fuel efficiency. I purchased the ScanGuageII so I will soon get some physical details. Overall, the improvement in the horsepower is quite noticable. Volant promises "up to" 22 more horespower. I am gestimating that I am getting somewhere between 12 to 15 more hp without any other mods. As far as sound, there is very little improvement when compared to the stock intake. You can hear the intake doing its job but with an open throttle its really not that much louder than the stock intake. If all you're looking for is a louder, more throaty sound opposed to actual performance, look for air ducts that are designed out of aluminum."

"This is a great kit! It was easy to install and looks great under the hood! I have noticed better throttle response and so far driving 350 miles, I have gained 1 MPG more. Also, when towing, my truck doesn't shift down as much. Great product! I like the idea of having the air filter enclosed in the air box instead of being exposed under the hot engine like the other "cold air intakes"."

"Great upgrade! I have a high flow exhaust and the two together work great. The increase in horse power and throttle response was well worth it. Gas milage increase was only about 1-2 mpg. The main thing Volant needs to upgrade is their directions for installation. A diagram only is not good enough. I have installed several cold air intakes in my other vehicles otherwise I would have had a tough time installing this system with the diagram only. Overall great product! If you have a H3 with a 5.3 liter motor it is well worth it. To my knowledge they are the first ones with a cold air intake system for this application. I have been checking for a year."
