Before K&N's latest intake designs become a certified member of their hallowed 57 Series FIPK line, they start as a 63 Series AirCharger. It's what makes the 63 Series Air Intakes some of the most potent and powerful high-flow devices to roll out of the famous K&N factory.
K&N starts every 63 Series Intake with the largest possible Filtercharger cloth filter that will fit your vehicle. Massive airflow runs through this washable, reusable filter for the biggest power gains. Couple that with K&N's crosslink nylon intake tube that runs cooler than a metal pipe, and the 63 Series AirCharger Kit stuffs pure pedal punch right into your power plant.
Best yet, adding this raw power takes less than 90 minutes and requires no drilling or modification. Detailed instructions and a complete hardware kit make this DIY project a breeze. Plus, K&N includes a Million Mile Limited Warranty with your 63 Series AirCharger Intake Kit. So, why wait? Place your order for raw 63 Series power now.

easy to install, looks good, makes more power when towing my boat trailer but in 5th gear it seems likt running out of gas or vapor lock. will run a full tank of gas through it to see if I still have the problem, if so calling k&n or AutoAnything. Other wise like it

I bought this thinking it would increase my hp as well as mpg but it hasn't. I actually believe it got worse. I love how easy the instructions were to follow but come on I'm wasting more gas now than before.

I was initially drawn to this intake because it's one of the few decent ones I found for my '12 ram 1500 (with the 4.7 engine), but it turned out to be awesome. Installation is a bit of pain just because of where they chose to mount the brackets too, and that I had to drill a hole into the air tube to install the factory air temp sensor (which was unexpected), but besides that it was just a standard install. Once installed, I immediately noticed the truck was jumpier off the line. Great product.

Combined with my previously installed cat back dual exhaust system on my 2006 Tacoma I can definitely feel the extra power. When the truck hits the the upper 2000's RPM range it feels like I have more horsepower and torque. Since I have not filled up since installing the cold air intake kit I can't gauge if there is an increase in MPG.

Hi, The 63 series intake is the non-CARB legal version of their CARB legal 57 series intake. Unfortunately, the 63 series intake is not smog legal in California.

Hi, They're exactly the same intake with one being CARB certified and the other being 49-state legal. A 63 series intake becomes a 57 series once K&N gets the CARB certification for it.

Which cold air intake kit will I get the most horsepower out of?
Answered by Nathan S. — Jun 06, 2013 3:02 PM
Hi, An intake with an nylon tube such as the 63 series K&N will provide the best gains. The nylon insulates the incoming air (cold air is denser) and the material can be molded into a more efficient bend than an aluminum tube.

Hi, Most of the time, it's a leak, but i have seen other causes. I usually hear about the silicone boot by the throttle body being slightly off-angle, or a dirty sensor connection. Have you plugged a scantool into it yet?

I installed my intake today, I'm looking at the diagram provided by k&n and it looks like I have a piece missing. On the diagram a part called "AA" or "adapter" which is the piece that the large filter pushes on to and creates the seal (then you clamp the filter down on it). This piece has two mysterious thread brass female screw holes in the back of it. Am I supposed to screw anything into this? What are the holes for? I see no part on the diagram that screws on to this and it shows no bolts threading into it so I'm slightly perplexed. Overall, the air filter for the H3 Hummer does NOT fit together very well and does NOT line up correctly. Modifications must be made to the kit which is unfortunate. For this price, everything should fit snug without gaps.

Answered by Nathan S. — Nov 08, 2012 2:37 PM
K&N 63 series are for offroad use only and become FIPK or 57 series intakes when they are CARB certified. It looks like your only option for K&N at the moment is the 69 series: http://www.autoanything.com/air-intakes/kn-69-series-typhoon-intake-systems

Installed the K&N 63 series recommended for my 2012 Nissan Frontier pickup. Now the mileage has gone down drastically and there is a strong smell of fuel when I get out of the pickup. Any ideas? Could the MAF sensor be installed backward? I am at a loss!
Answered by Anonymous — Nov 02, 2012 9:36 PM
I have that gas smell too, but only slightly at random times, and my mpg has improved. I think there would be a check engine light on if the MAF was in backwards. Make sure everything is sealed tightly before you do anything. Take it too a shop if it continues.

K&N makes great products. A 6.2L picks up a little more than 10 hp with a 63 series kit. Add a Superchips programmer and a Flowmaster exhaust to top that truck off.

What exactly does CARB have to do with this system and my truck?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Jun 29, 2012 6:03 PM
CARB stands for the California Air Resources Board, and they regulate emissions standards in certain states. To find out if you drive your truck and have it registered in one of these states, check out this link. This may affect what parts you can use legally on the highway, so it’s worth looking into.

Not my first K&N. I had one of those K&N 63's on my 2010 Foed F150 5.4L. Actually on and off 2 times. It caused pre-ignition KNOCK really bad and changed the shift pattern of the transmission. K&N said it was bad gas but after that NO HELP. I put it on by the numbers and it was noticable immediately. KNOCK KNOCK. Any suggestions? Any takers, cheep.
Answered by Nathan S. — Jul 05, 2012 4:05 PM
I would recommend checking for air leaks from the bottom of the silicone sleeve that connects the the throttle body. Make sure the sleeve isn't creased at the bottom and all connections are tight. The knock and transmission shifting issues are most likely a result of the mass airflow sensor reading incorrectly either due to an air leak somewhere before the throttle body, dirt in the sensor connections or a defective manifold absolute pressure (MAP)sensor or Mass Airflow sensor (MAF). These issues will prevent the engine control module from properly estimating engine load.

Answered by Nathan S. — Jul 05, 2012 4:07 PM
I would double check the edge programmer settings for octane rating compatibility and for air leaks before the throttle body. Unfortunately, a throttle body will cause mounting issues with your cold air intake as it moves the system out of position.

I've noticed through different stores & websites that there are a couple different part numbers for the K&N Performance Intake Kits. In your opinion, which is the best for increased horsepower and fuel efficiency (MPG)?
Answered by Nathan S. — May 21, 2012 11:40 AM 2002 Dodge Ram
Either the 57 FIPK or 63 series tend to be the best due to the nylon intake tube with its efficient bend and low heat transfer to the intake charge. The 57 series is the CARB legal version of the 63.

I bought and installed a K&N 63 series product for my Chevy and immediately kicked codes and a check engine light. P01175, P0068, P0171, and P0174. My question is this what extra things do I have to do after buying this product to make my Chevy run without kicking any codes? Do I now have to buy a programmer or have the truck programmed? Am I even going to be able to use the K&N product at all or have to return it? Any help is appreciated. I want to keep and use the K&N if possible.

if you don't remove the negative battery terminal you won't get the program to re read everything and adjust automatically. Step one..as I see it.

Thanks Nathan. How does the truck know the difference between a vacuum leak and higher air volume delivered thru the K&N filter? This P0174 is running too lean in Bank 2. I wonder if this is as simple as a vacuum leak, more air than the computer is programed to accept, or a bigger problem? Anyway, what are the long term issues I could face?

I will assume you are running Lean as more air is getting into the engine and toyota's engine control is compensating by adding more fuel, hence more power. This is not a drop in filter any you would benefit from having the truck tuned, either at a shop (prefered) or at least with a handheld like a Diablo, SCT, etc.

Will this series 63 CAI fit a BBK 90mm Throttle Body on a 2011 Ram 1500 Hemi and will the hood close without a problem? Thanks Jim
Answered by Nathan S. — May 15, 2012 7:50 AM
You shouldnt have an issue as the flexible silicone boot will expand over the throttle body to some extent. In most cases, an enlarged throttle body tends to have a larger internal bore while leaving the outside dimensions unchanged. I don't see a reason why you would have hood clearance issues as long as you are still using your stock hood.

Hey Richard, basically, the 77 Series has an aluminum intake tube, and the 63 Series uses a crosslink nylon intake tube. The metal tube looks great under the hood; however, some enthusiasts feel that the nylon tube stays cooler.

I did the K&N cold air intake update... sounds better but no change to MPG... still getting only 15-16 MPG. Using Mobile One synthetic oil with only 38,000 miles. This is the 2 wheel drive model(less weight).
Answered by Nathan S. — May 15, 2012 7:59 AM
There is a learning process for the engine control module in your truck once you add an aftermarket accessory such as a cold air intake. Frequently referred to as "adaptive strategy", the ECU constantly corrects air/fuel ratio mapping and spark timing to optimize combustion and reduce emissions. It can take a few weeks for the ECU to make the changes that it is able to before benefits to economy may be seen. The addition of a programmer speeds up the process and gives the ECU a better idea of how to use a cold air intake by providing a defined range of changes it can utilize. There is also the question of driving style to factor in. I know how hard it is to keep the right foot away from the floorboards especially after adding cool sounding new parts, but you do get better gas mileage that way.

For a 50 horsepower gain, you would probably need a supercharger or some other type of forced induction, which is certainly not cheap. With a cold air intake, a programmer and a cat back exhaust system, you could realistically see a 30-35hp gain. We offer these three products with the best prices online.
