Just like many others I was skeptical on spending $150 on an intake. I installed the intake in 30 minutes, all stickers and directions included. I took it for a test drive and WOW. It kicks in at about 3000 RPM's and sounds mean. Put the pedal to the floor and you might Sh!t your pants. Great throttle response, pull and horsepower. Don't know much about my MPG because I always have my gas pedal to the floor. Definitely Recommend

I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, I was wondering what the average increase in mpg, hp, and torque would be if I installed a short ram intake, and would you recommend I add a computer chip to gain more? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Answered by Nathan S. — Feb 18, 2013 3:29 PM
Hi, Increases will be around 7-10 hp, 5-6 lb-ft of torque and 1-3 MPG, IF you stay off of the gas. You can also use the Jet V-Force Plus Power Control Module to for another 8-10 hp.

I already bought a Short Ram Intake and it seems like there is no room to install the intake. I have been looking on youtube but no one seems to have a step by step. Would the car's manual have the answer or should i just bring the car into Auto Zone? Also, i have been told that when you install the intake, the temperature of the car rises. Is there a way to prevent that? It's a 4-door automatic i-4. Thanks.

I have an 03 Acura CL typeS - what do you recommend the cold air intake or the short ram? I had the short ram on my civic ex and then my accord ex, but both of those cars had the 4 cylinder. Thanks
Answered by Nathan S. — Jul 17, 2012 9:54 AM
A true cold air intake will produce more power as it is drawing air from outside of the hot engine compartment. Short rams are usually for asthetics and preventing water ingestion by the engine if you find yourself driving through deep water.

I have a lifted slightly Tacoma, and I love to go through water deeper than a foot, would this be an issue with the cold air? Just to clarify, I'm generally not going slow through the water

On a short ram system it would be fine. On a true cold air system that goes into the bumper area you will have an issue unless you buy a cold air intake bypass valve. It has a flap that prevents water from pushing through.

Is it guaranteed that mileage and h.p. will improve?
Answered by Nathan S. — Jun 29, 2012 6:39 AM
You will see a horsepower increase as the AEM Short Ram Intake System eliminates the restrictive bends in your factory intake. Any mileage increases will depend on your driving style though, but a 1-3 mpg increase is not uncommon.

I notice that my stock in-take has smog connections. What happens to those connections with the cold air in-take system installation? Also, will the cold-air intake pass Calif. Smog checks?
Answered by Nathan S. — Jun 07, 2012 10:06 AM 1995 Honda Del Sol
The AEM Short Ram Intake System has provisions to retain your factory emissions connections. The product is CARB legal so smog checks wont be an issue.

I own a 92 civic lx throttle bodied car, will it fit? and its canada right,so the weather can change alot, so, cold air, or short ram, i read up on some comments, but if u go around 50 mph highway to come to town then about 15 minuts of city driving, should istill go with cold air or should i go short ram, the price is very attracting too
Answered by Nathan S. — May 25, 2012 9:46 AM
I would recommend obtaining your VIN number and calling one of our phone agents to verify fitment as our products are made for vehicles sold in the United States and some Canadian Honda's can be a little different. If deep water is a concern, go with a short ram. A cold air intake system will make more power though.

hi,i have a 2002 mitsubishi eclipse rs and i want to add more hp to it . i dont know which intake to buy ,im afraid of the hydro lock ,also i heard about the bypass valve but i dont know if it really works , what would you suggest? thanks
Answered by Nathan S. — May 01, 2012 5:01 PM 2003 Dodge Ram
The AEM Short Ram Intake System certainly is a good way to go if you are driving through more than a few inches of water and are worried about your engine ingesting a gulp full. I still wouldnt try to ford a flooded road though for safety reasons.

are you sure? 2000 civics are fuel injected, not carbs.

Hi there, i would like to buy a short ram intake system for my 2002 Impreza RX,would you recommend me some budget system and also if you can give me some information on any performance increase and the sound i'll get it. thanks
Answered by Nathan S. — May 01, 2012 5:04 PM 2002 Subaru Impreza
The AEM Short Ram Intake System is affordable and will get you around 5-7 extra horsepower. It will be a little bit louder than your factory intake system as you are eliminating the factory designed sound baffles.

I use my Accord to drive to school and work just about every day. Most of the way to each place I'm traveling between 40mph and 60mph, and it's pretty much a straight shot either way. I'm not really in stop and go traffic. Which would be better in my case, a ram intake or cold air intake?
Answered by Anonymous — Mar 05, 2012 9:53 PM 1998 Acura Integra
either way. on an accord the gains an intake will give you vehicle is minimal. I have one just for the gain in MPG and the throaty sound when you stiomp on it. But typicaly cold air is more recomended. Short ram gets heat soak when you sit at a light or are in traffic.
