I installed it on my truck and had noticed a increase and hp and throttle response but with reasonable driving I have noticed a decrease in mpg. I've just ordered a exhaust and hoping that will even things out.

the metal tube needs to be 1 inch longer on the long end, the clamp on the rubber 90 degree just picks it up, directions not real clear, put the rubber gasket on after you have installed the heat shield, makes it much easier.

It was harder to remove the factory filter box than to install the Spectre cold air intake. Perfect fit. Went from 22 mpg to 29 mpg. First tank of gas, drove loaded down on fishing trip through the mountains and still got 29 mpg. A little increase in torque. Get one you won't regret it.

Very simple to instal. The only problem was that the wrong size flex boot was in the kit. I called them and in about three days the right one was at my door. Not sure what bracket people in other reviews say they had to bend. There was no such bracket on mine. It takes longer to remove the old intake than it does to put the Spectre on. Its not quiet but it sure sounds mean.

Pleased with our purchase of the Spectre Cold Air Intake. Great product for a great price! Installation itself was fairly easy but the directions and illustrations were difficult to follow. Pleased with the outcome.

Hi, I would expect around a 10 HP increase or an extra 1-3 MPG depending on your driving style. Drive with a heavy foot and you'll get the HP gains, drive with a light foot and you'll see a MPG increase.

Hi Bob, CARB stands for California Air Resources Board. This is an emissions standard that's started in California (surprise) and has spread to several states to cut down on air pollution. A part that has been CARB certified will have either a stamping, metal tag, or sticker with an identifying serial number, can be used on public roads and will be smog legal in all 50 states.

I understand that the spectre intake is $100 cheaper than K&N. Is there a big sound difference? Because i know that there has to be some difference in the products for that big of a price change? Or is it just because K&N is a big and popular brand? like under armour clothing?
Answered by Nathan S. — Jan 16, 2013 10:54 AM
Hi, Both kits will make a difference in the tone of your engine as they eliminate factory sound deadening baffles. The main differences between the products are the flow characteristics and quality. Having a larger-than-stock intake tube doesn't ensure noticeable gains in power. Spectre uses a larger tube to boost flow and while this works to build power, other airflow effects are ignored so the total gains won't be as high as a refined kit. A Spectre Kit is great as an affordable option to expensive kits but may not have the fit & finish and durability that some drivers demand. K&N offers high-end kit with precision welds (metal tube) and fit like your factory tube. Their nylon tube intakes are molded to not only take advantage of increased intake flow (more air, more power), but intake velocity (better mixing of air and fuel through swirl effects), resulting in greater power gains.

I live in Cali and i bought a car with this intake. I tried getting a smog check but they wouldn't approve because i don't have serial code or california approved sticker? They sell this in Autozone, why wouldn't the smog check shop approve then?
Answered by Nathan S. — Jan 08, 2013 7:33 AM
Hi, While Autozone may offer performance parts in California, some of them are "for offroad use only" and have not been CARB certified. So, in a nutshell, you can use the intake on a racetrack in California but not on the street. The accessories that we offer are clearly labeled "CARB legal"are for offroad use only. If you still need to smog your car, consider one of these intakes: http://www.autoanything.com/air-intakes/61A2052A0A0.aspx

Hi. I was wondering if a spectre cold airtake will fit with a helix throttle body spacer? On a gmc 08 sierra 5.3L v8
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Aug 07, 2012 12:23 PM
Hello. The intake and throttle body spacer are not meant to be used together, they are both designed to be used with the other original parts. People have purchased both in the past and received the benefits of both, which is huge! I would recommend trying it and if one doesn’t fit it can be returned. Thank you for your question.

I purchased a Spectra cold air intake for my 2007 Dodge Ram pickup with Hemi. I seemed to have lost a mile or two in gas mileage. Am I to assume, as with my Harley, that if I change the intake to except THAT much more air, I also need to do something with the exhaust system to relieve the pressure and improve the mileage. What do I need?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Jul 20, 2012 4:33 PM
In regards to your 2007 Dodge Ram, adding an air intake will assist in saving gas, if driven normally like it was driven before the intake was installed. The idea of an air intake is to add more air volume into the motor to boost motor efficiency. To further aid in efficiency, it is also recommended to add an exhaust to relieve the extra air that was brought into the motor, for example, more air in, more air out. MPG gains are minimal, roughly in the range of 1-4 miles per gallon, (depending on conditions) but the gain is dependent on driving style. If you install the air intake and the exhaust, and drive normally, then you will see those gains. Most people will add the air intake and the exhaust and then realize they have a bit more power under their foot and give a little more gas, if that happens, there goes your gas savings.

do you have a video of a spectre cold air intake installation
Answered by Nathan S. — Jul 17, 2012 10:43 AM
Not only is a performance air intake one of the most essential upgrades to your vehicle, it happens to be one of the easiest additions to install. With little more than a common socket set, a couple of screwdrivers and half an hour's time, you can have your new air intake in place and ready to roar. We do not have an installation video for this product, however detailed instructions are included with every intake kit. These instructions go through the simple process of removing your stock intake system (including the tube and air box), and installing the new air intake in just a few minutes to stock mounting positions. No cutting, drilling or other modifications are required. What you do with your limiting stock intake next is, well, up to you.

Will this reduce my fuel economy in my Chevy Blazer if I drive like a maniac?
Answered by Jason K — Jun 20, 2012 3:22 PM
Fuel economy testing and mileage claims are a tricky business. A lot of exaggerated claims are made in the marketplace by products claiming to improve gas mileage. Spectre makes no general fuel economy claims, however we encourage you to try one for yourself. Keeping restriction as low as possible can be an important tool, among others, for maintaining high mileage. You will sacrifice fuel economy the more aggressively you drive regardless of whether or not you install an intake.
flagAnswered by Kasper L. — Mar 17, 2012 10:51 PM 1997 Chevy Tahoe
If you drive like a maniac, then sure but it will definately be better than your intake now. On my 97 Tahoe, it even gave it a stronger sound as well. After about two weeks I noticed I get much better mileage now.

Most aftermarket cold air intakes are made for "wet" filters such as the one included. They are easy to clean and if done proerly need cleaned around one a year depending on the dust in your area. I dont know the part number for the solvent but you can buy it at any parts dealer in your town. Also, your truck should have had a "Vortec" intake when it was new. The OEM filter should also fit on the cold air intake as does my 99.
