Advanced Braking - Offroad Brakes & Brake Pad Accessories

Trail braking is an advanced braking technique racecar drivers use that allows them to slide through a quick corner. Instead of completing the braking sequence before the corner, you apply the brakes later and combine the last bit of braking with the turn. The driver continues braking into the corner, gradually trailing off the brakes while steering. When turning into the corner while braking, weight is still resting on the front tires. This technique increases front grip and decreases rear grip, slightly rotating the rear-end of the vehicle into the corner. Since braking continues through the corner, this technique shaves seconds off a race by delaying the reduction of speed that would otherwise have occurred in the preceding straight braking zone.

Technique is only half of it though. Because no matter how experienced the driver, without performance parts, he's just like every other guy behind the wheel fishtailing.

Slotted rotors are one of the biggest contributors when it comes to the increased stopping power you'll find on almost every racecar on the track (at least those that manage to avoid the walls and center-divide). They're slotted and drilled to rapidly cool the braking surface for increased performance and added bite. Plus, in wet weather, they channel water away from the braking surface by allowing it to pass more freely through the holes, adding to performance while preventing the dangerous loss of braking power that comes with waterlogged brakes.

Another important feature that's made its way from the track to the streets is a set of performance brake lines. Unlike those mushy rubber stock hoses, performance brake lines are crafted to last and come in stainless steel, resisting corrosion and abrasion. They can also bridge the gap between your lift kit and calipers, enhance pedal feel and greatly improve upon the performance of your stock parts.

One of the final contributors to performance on the track is a combination of a performance-grade brake caliper and brake pads. Used together, they deliver up to 30 percent more braking power than stock parts for unrivaled pedal response, longevity, and less dust, which may not be a big deal to a guy with a pit crew, but when you're the one washing your vehicle, it makes a huge difference. Constructed of light-weight, aerospace-grade, billet aluminum and stainless steel pistons, a high-end brake caliper resists corrosion and fights off high temperatures. Similarly, brake pads are designed vehicle-specific to your make, model and year to deliver increased friction while conforming to the manufacturer's standards for noise, vibration, durability and fit.

Not all of us have access to a closed course or the opportunity to use advanced racing techniques. But, by installing a performance brake system, you can enjoy the same level of performance no matter where you find the line or who you're competing against.

Trail braking can shave seconds off your time. But, technique means very little without performance brake parts like slotted rotors, brake lines and a solid brake caliper.
