Anything that's fun is usually messy…and the outdoors is definitely no exception. But, whether you're braving a water-logged trail or soaking up the sun on a sandy beach, there are a number of truck accessories for the outdoor enthusiast to minimize the mess and resulting damage from a day of R & R. The top five would be:
Truck Seat Covers
The number of times you climb into your truck covered in mud, sweat, grease and grime far outnumber those where you're wearing a tuxedo. Truck seat covers keep your upholstery looking its best and provide a barrier between your valuable interior and the spills, stains and other damaging forces that erode your resale or trade-in value. Available in a wide variety of styles and colors, they also make the perfect upgrade to the overall appearance of your interior. Plus, they go on and off in a snap with no tools required, and they're easily washed in your home washer and dryer when soiled.
Floor Mats
Whether you've just finished a day of hiking or a 30-second sprint from the office to your car in the pouring rain, the mud caked on your shoes can wreak havoc on your interior. But, with a solid set of heavy-duty floor mats, you've got a protective barrier against the rain, dirt and harmful elements that can soak the carpeting of your floorboards and even allow mildew to take hold. When shopping for floor mats, look for the custom-tailored variety. They provide maximum coverage that far exceeds that provided by stock mats and won't cover up your floor controls.
Truck Bed Bike Racks
A truck bed bike rack is a fast, stable and easy way to securely transport your bikes to and from the trail. Pulling the wheels off and on is a hassle, especially for bikes without quick release hubs. With a truck rack, simply lock your forks to the bar and you're ready to hit the road. Truck racks also keep your road racer or beach cruiser from banging around while you drive.
Tonneaus
The most common tonneau is a "roll-up," comprised of a single unit mounted at the front of the bed behind the cab. The unit houses a retractable fabric or plastic cover that can be rolled out and secured to the end of the bed. Fiberglass or hard-plastic tonneau covers are also popular because of their appearance, which is usually painted to match the truck. The can also be locked, making them more secure than their soft-plastic counterparts.
Tow Hitches
A tow hitch, also known as a tow bar or trailer hitch, is a device attached to the chassis of a vehicle that allows the towing of campers, boats or recreational equipment. Trailer hitches are available in two main configurations: receiver type and fixed-drawbar type. Receiver-type hitches mount to the frame of a vehicle that accepts removable ball mounts. Fixed-drawbar hitches are usually a one piece construction and have a built-in hole for the trailer ball. The drawback to this variety is that they're generally not compatible with aftermarket hitch accessories.
Air Suspension
When towing those heavy loads, an air bag suspension system makes for the smoothest possible ride. Air suspension replaces conventional steel springs, and some are even self-leveling.
The outdoors are wild but can easily be tamed with truck accessories like a tow hitch, air suspension system or truck seat covers. Roughing it doesn't mean you have to live without style and comfort.
