Keep Control with Control Arms
Your vehicle’s
control arm allows the wheel to move up and down with the suspension while maintaining its relative position to the vehicle. An important suspension component, control arms make up one part of an entire suspension assembly or sub-frame. They are usually crafted as a bracket or an arm that pivots at both ends, where it mounts to the control arm bushings. Other common names for
control arms are wishbones or a-arms.
Most vehicles with a control arm suspension have more than one arm per wheel. Usually an upper control arm and a lower control arm, and the two are normally not interchangeable. If one control arm is broken or damaged, especially if from an impact, it is a good idea to change out both arms and any other components that may have been compromised.
Other common parts that make up the control arm sub-frame that may need replacing due to damage or wear and tear are the Link Bushing, Control Arm Stay Bushing, Control Arm, Control Arm Bushing and the Spring Seat.
