"This piece was everything it says to be. It will give your tuck the look your looking for. It also protects your tailgate very well and is very sturdy with the screws that hold it in place unlike the other ones with the 3M tape."

"I purchased this product because I have seen Dee Zee in many magazines and on many websites. I've read positive things about their products. When I received the tailgate cap, I was a bit disappointed upon opening the box. I don't know what kind of machine Dee Zee uses to stamp them out, but it appears to be a blade that uses multiple, smaller blades. There are small "nipples" (for lack of better term) where the small blades seem to meet and the "cuts" have the edge of the piece rolled over more. The quality of the cut is poor.
The edges of the piece were very sharp. I spent 45 minutes with a file and sand paper smoothing the edges enough that I wouldn't cut myself once it was mounted. It didn't appear that Dee Zee made any effort to smooth the edges.
Concerning the mounting, Dee Zee does not provide any kind of automotive tape or any sort of cushioning to mount between the piece and your tailgate. The stainless cap is placed right onto the tailgate and secured with screws. Expect to spend another $15-$20 for some exterior grade, double sided foam tape if you don't want it rubbing and vibrating on your paint. 3M brand auto trim tape is very expensive, so I went with "exterior" grade Scotch (made by 3M) tape sold at Wal-Mart. (note: the tape is not intended to hold the protector on, only to cushion it and protect the paint..to avoid rust).
The tailgate protector fit is poor also. When put into place, the side-to-side fit is fine, but front to back the protector is too long. With the inside edge up against the tailgate, the back end protrudes out from the tailgate about 1/8 to 3/16 inches. It is not a close fit at all. Even with the foam tape, there is still a gap. The protector also had a bow in it so it would not lay flat on top of the tailgate without a fair amount of force to bend it down. Required 2 people to hold it in place for installation.
I purchased this protector because it is half the price of the Putco unit (which does come with 3M automotive tap"
