Description

At the start of a long journey or the end of a dusty trail ride, the Thule Roadway Bike Rack is a welcome sight. Rather than having to hoist your cycles onto the roof, the Roadway lets you rest your 2-wheelers in comfortable saddles for simple, secure transportation.

Those soft saddles are Thule's innovative new T3 cradles. They're padded to protect your paint from scuffs and vibrations. Adjustable top straps fit snug against most any frame. And, the T3 cradles safely grip your fame tight for stable hauling. It's the T3 cradles that set the Thule Roadway rack apart from inferior competition.

The Thule Roadway's arms are adjustable up and down to accommodate a variety of bikes, and they fold flat when empty. Thule includes a tie-down strap for that extra snugness your bikes require on a long ride.

The Thule Roadway Bike Rack is available in 3 models to hold 2 (Thule 912), 4 (Thule 914) or 5 (Thule 915) bikes. Plus, Thule covers your Roadway Bike Rack with a Lifetime Warranty.

"Ordered the Thule Roadway Bike Rack for Christmas, arrived in two days. Installation was less than five minutes and intructions very simple. Very few moving parts. Works great when it folds up when not in use. When it folds down to use the rear upward swinging door on my Yukon XL it is a snap. Looks nice too."

"i like the most foldability of this rack. i tried the Parkway and felt unsafe about paralell parking with the rack sticking out; the Roadway folds down with the lift of a lever, and folding it away from the trunk to acess the hatch is simple and requires little muscle strength. if using small bike for kids (3-5 years, for ex.) you can stretch the rubber strap around the frame of one side and lay the other side in the proper holder to rig it up so that you do not really need to purchase a bar. that is what i have done."

"The thule roadway (4) bike rack works well, however (1) of the rubber straps that hold the bike in place broke the first time I used the rack. I don't like the threaded bolt that holds it on the hitch,I would prefer an unthreaded hole for a regular hitch pin."

"3 bolts to install, and it's ready to go. The 2 levers are obvious and solid. The only downside is that to lock it onto your hitch, you really need 2 locking bolts, or a long cable lock."

"We bought the Thule Roadway Bike Rack for 5 bikes. A couple days later we drove all day with the bikes on the rack. It worked very well, and it was nice to be able to take our bikes with us finally. A couple of our bikes were more difficult to get on the rack (child's small bike and youth's bike with thick frame). For the trip home we picked up some Yakima adapter bars at a local shopped which really helped the bikes fit better on the rack. The empty rack folds down and tilts away easily so it hasn't been in the way of getting the rear hatch open. Also, the bikes hang at a decent level to see over through the rearview mirror. We do have a spot on the vertical post were the black paint has been scratched off and rust has started. Not sure what caused it to know what we could have done to have prevented it. Overall a nice bike rack and we're glad to have it."

"My daughter and I assembled and installed this rack with the tool provided in less than 15 minutes. Loading the bikes was easy, straps are mounted on the rack so there are no parts to lose. I traveled with 4 bikes of various sizes and rented a fifth bike at the destination. The saddles the bikes rest in can be moves up and down the rods so with a little experimentation I found the spacing and sequence for placing the bikes on the rack so there was no interference between the bikes. One thing I did discover in using the rack was that the saddles can be rotated 90 degrees in suck a manner that you can secure the saddle to the vertical tube on the bike frame (the one the seat goes into). This eliminates the need for the "fake top tube" that someone in an earilier review found necessary. Obviously you can't use the tip away feature to tip the rack when it is loaded. So if you have cargo doors, like my suburban does, you can't access them when loaded. With the rack unloaded the cargo doors do clear when it is tipped away. The mechanisms to tip the rods down and the rack away from the vehicle are pretty ingenious and are easy to operate. With a little finesse, when the rack was folded down, I could tip the rack away from the vehicle with my left hand and open the cargo door on the vehicle with my right in practically one motion. As a matter of fact it operated so easily I did not go to the trouble of taking it off when it was not in use on the trip. The rack mounts using a bolt you screw into the pin hole in the 2” receiver on your vehicle. This makes for very solid, no sway no rattle mounting. But it does require a tool (provided) to mount and remove the rack. Also it is not apparent to me how you would lock this rack to the vehicle other than a cable lock. Bottom line: Great rack that I would recomend and buy again."
