"We recently purchased a Toyota Rav4,and had much difficulty finding a rack that inserts into a 2" hitch AND was far enough away from the vehicle to accomodate the spare tire on the back of the car. After researching different racks for several days on the web, I called the Allen manufacturer and they recommened this bike rack. We haven't hauled bikes with it yet, but with the cover taken off of the spare tire, the rack will work and appears to be well made. My 200 lb husband tested it by putting all of his weight on it while the rack was attached to the car and no problem! The rack held him fine. Very sturdy."

Top of the Line Bike Rack

"This Allen Bike Rack Hitch Carrier is super sturdy. It's not hard to put together. I've driven down the road with this on the back of my SUV, and it looks better than other brands I've seen on the road. Seriously, other brands look flimsy and cheap compared to this. This really goes good with my vehicle, and doesn't degrade the image. I bought this after having an after-market hitch installed, which curves outward from my SUV, since the spare tire is right under the bumper (original factory location). With this and the bike rack style, it sits far enough away from the vehicle so I never need worry about scratches! Plus it looks cool. Don't buy anything else, unless you need a 5-Bike Hitch Carrier!"

It's My First Trailer-hitch Bike Carrier... Ever

"Overall, I think it'll work (I'll make it work). But, arranging a man's bike, a woman's bike, and a kids bike on the carrier isn't easy (not a lot of space between the bike-holder-brackets). And I had to drill a bigger hole in the part that goes into the hitch, so I can use my hitch bolt. Otherwise you're expected to secure it by a 5/8" nut-n-bolt (provided) every time you use it (too much wasted time and energy). Quite a bit of wobble too, but a couple straps should help hold it tight. We'll see..."

"I am using the Allen 430RR rack on my VW Beetle. The rack was simple to assemble and I like the fact that there is a quick release pin that allows the rack to tilt back from the car for easy access to the trunk. There is also a quick release pin that allows the upper arm assembly to fold flat when the bicycles have been removed. The rack is solid and the bicycles are easily and firmly attached using the nylon straps. The only problem I had was using the 3/8" No-Wobble bolt provided to attach the rack to the car hitch. The instructions say to tighten the locking nut and bolt firmly using two wrenches. Because of the location under the car, this assembly proved to be quite difficult. I have found that using an electric drill with a socket tool quickly tightens the bolt securely and a lot easier.
I am very happy with the carrier.
