When it comes to carrying around your prized 2-wheelers, always bet on Yakima. Now, with the introduction of their DoubleDown Bike Rack, you don’t need a massive bankroll to equip your ride with Yakima. More Monte Carlo than Atlantic City, the DoubleDown deals up premium quality at nickel-slot rates.
At the heart of your Yakima DoubleDown Bike Rack is the standard SwitchBlade cradle technology. These anti-sway seats for your bikes stop shifting and rubbing while you drive. What’s more, you can pull the TriggerFinger to fold the arms down flush when you’re not hauling cycles. For quick access to your cargo, the DoubleDown also tilts forward.
And, the Yakima DoubleDown offers more options than a craps table. You can go with a 2-bike, 4-bike or 5-bike model depending on how many bicycles you need to carry. The RocSteady hitch tongue licks sway and fits into both 1 1/4" and 2” receivers. Yakima also built a bottle opener into your DoubleDown, and backs it with a Lifetime Warranty.
Our 60+ Yakima DoubleDown Bike Rack customer reviews have an average rating of 4.50 out of 5 stars. To see specific reviews about your vehicle, please select your year, make and model from the drop down above.

Well-designed, easy to install and use. Especially like the tilt-down feature that allows access to the tailgate. Rugged! My only complaint is that the rubber fastening system is somewhat of a compromise. I just use a bungie cord to lash everything down. Then, run a cable lock for a measure of theft protection.

Fast shipping, instructions were easy. I'm an out-of-shape female but was able to install this rack by myself onto my '09 Subaru Forester. The rack sticks out an inch further than I anticipated but it hasn't affected my ability to park. Visibility is good through the rear-view mirror (rack doesn't obstruct your view). Holds my bike nice and sturdy. Only improvement would be a lockable hitch connection. Anyone with a wrench can simply take the rack right off within a minute or two.

Easy to install. Just got back from a 2000+ mile trip with 2 bikes and no problems. Rack held both bikes down tight and secure. I purchased the optional lock system as well and it worked just fine.

Does this fit well with a Honda Odyssey. How good or bad is access to the rear door?
Answered by Nathan S. — Mar 19, 2013 7:21 AM
Hi Barney, The rack works great on vehicles without hatch mounted spare tires and will all the rear hatch to open fine as the rack can hinge downward when needed.

Does this rack work for women's and children's bikes?
Answered by Michael K. — Sep 04, 2012 12:16 PM
This rack is designed to hold bicycles with a standard top-tube frame, so you may have some difficulty with the ladies frame. However, there are some frame adapters that adapt full-suspension, girls' and BMX bike frames to work with the rack. Check ‘em out here:

I'm concerned about theft and parking, I live in a big city where parking is tight and theft rate is high. Is it easy to take off as well, so that I can secure it in the vehicle when not in use or parking in a tight spot?

I would like to know what the diameter is of the hitch pin for the Yakima Double Down bike rack.
Answered by Michael K. — May 22, 2012 4:47 PM
The diameter depends on the size of the hitch. The 2” receiver will take a ½ inch pin and 5/8 inch pin for the 1.25 inch receiver.

Can you leave the bikes on the rack the Double Down or Bighorn when it is tilted forward so you can access the cargo area? Thanks Bill

Hi Bill, Yakima recommends that you remove your bikes before you tilt the rack away from your vehicle.
