Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does a spoiler really do anything for my vehicle?

Change your aerodynamicsThe effect a spoiler has on your vehicle depends on the shape and design of the individual model. Most factory-direct and factory-style spoilers and wings have little or no effect on handling, speed or drag–they're just for decoration. Those factory models with some change on aerodynamics or down force act to stabilize a vehicle's rear axel at high speeds–much faster than legal limits. There's a good chance that you'll never feel any change or need the benefits of a spoiler, other than its race-inspired looks.

2. Can I get a spoiler with an extra brake light built into the deck?

Third brake lightAutoAnything's factory-style spoilers come equipped with an extra brake light integrated into the deck if the original manufacturer's part was similarly equipped. Wiring for these lights is easy, and they can add some extra cool to the back end of your ride.

In most cases, a factory-style spoiler that wouldn't otherwise have an extra light will not come with one. Car wings cannot be ordered with an extra brake light.

3. What is the difference between a spoiler and a wing?

In racecar uses, rear spoilers (especially on open-wheel cars) are similar to the shape of a car wing. It's no surprise then that a car wing is the product that would have more of an effect on your car's handling at high speeds.

Compare a spoiler and a wingWhen comparing the spoilers and wings at AutoAnything, the looks say it all. Spoilers offer a sleek, molded appearance that finishes flush with the shape of your vehicle. Custom color is an option with our spoilers, too. Wings take a variety of shapes, but they typically sit much higher and sport industrial metallic looks.

4. What effect does adjusting the decks of a wing have on performance?

Performance attributesRaising the angle of the deck causes the wing to catch more passing air. This increases drag at high speeds, but also increases downforce and tightens handling. Lowering the wing will decrease drag, but also loosens high-speed handling. Fine-tuning the ratio of drag and downforce to find the right combination of speed and handling is a true art form.

5. How difficult is installing a spoiler or wing?

When installing a spoiler or car win, it's a good idea to set aside a few hours and take your time. Carefully follow the instructions provided with your wing, which may also include a pattern for making precise drill holes in your trunk lid. Nothing you'll have to do for installation is especially difficult. However, as it will require drilling, taking care to do each step right the first time is essential to getting the looks and secure mounting you want.
