Burnishing Instructions on Brake Pads

"Burnishing the new brake pads on my Corvette is taking longer than the instructions on the box indicated. The "low dust" claim is true. Overall, these pads have improved the car's stopping power."

"This is the third set of Hawk HPS pads I've installed on my vehicles. I feel very confident with their powerful stopping power and have noticed a significant improvement over factory pads in each case. I've been very pleased with these pads and plan to buy these again in the future."

"I recently installed these pads along with a set of Brembo slotted rotors on my Civic Si. They were a bit noisy during the break-in miles, but that was expected. After about 50 stops or so, they quieted down, and are a significant improvement over the OEM pads. The brake pedal feels firmer and more consistent through stops, and my stopping distance has improved without a doubt.
FOLLOW THE BREAK-IN PROCEDURE!!"

"at first completely silent noticeably large breaking difference its obvious it has more stopping power then stock pads ... for some reason now they are squeaking im not sure if they have to be broken in or something ... i am using them with brembo stock sized slotted rotors on all fours ... contact me if you know why at snatchitonce@gmail.com"

"At 60k miles, the factory Honda brake pads had a lot of material left on them, but they were cracked. The rotors also had hot spots on them. Since there are no service bulletins for my specific VIN, warranty would not cover. Going back with stock parts made little sense. I put the Hawk pads on in conjunction with new slotted rotors. I didn't really expect problems, and there were none. I have not heard any squeaking, and the brake judder of the OEM setup is now gone. The stopping action actually feels better now that I have put a few hundred miles on them. Feels smoother."

"Put these pads on at the track as a substitute for stock on my 2000 BMW M5. They provided a marginal improvement, less brake fade and crisper initial braking. They are a bit noisier than stock, but haven't driven them long enough on the street yet for a full review. --Alex"

"I just installed the Hawk LTS rear brake pads on my '01 Toyota Sequoia and they haven't made a sound and provide maximum stopping power in my opinion. I have the Hawk super duty brake pads up front and they have approximately 60% life left after 80K miles. There are a lot of highway miles included in those 80K miles but I was still surprised to find the super duties holding up that well. From my experience with the super duty pads I expect the LTS model pads to give me great service life and provide maximum stopping power. The reason I didn’t go super duty for the rear brakes was because I was advised that the super duty series sometimes are noisy (something I was not aware of) while the LTS series are never noisy. My front super duties produce no noise what so ever but I decided not to press my luck and went with the LTS series."

"Just got these for my Civic with a pair of powerslot rotors and i have to say they work great, no brake fad at all. the only thing is that there is alot of brake dust build up, maybe because they're new. but other than that, Works great! better than OEM."

Great pads, but low dust?
Posted on 09/20/2006 by John P. - 2004 Acura RSX (Carmichael,CA)

"These are very predictable low fade pads. I have them on a Dodge Durango, Mazda 626 (V6) and now my RSX Type S. They don’t seem to wear the rotors too badly considering the grip they are capable of. The HPS is advertised as low dusting. This is not so. I don’t believe that any performance brake pad is low dust. So, when replacing the brake pads thoroughly clean the wheels and apply generous amounts of wax or wheel dust repellant. If you do this, the dust will clean with any car wash. Also, it is very important to follow the Hawk break-in procedure to obtain the maximum performance."

"This was my second set of HPS pads. The first was on a '03 Dodge Ram. Both sets performed fantastic. Improved stopping and no pad smears on the rotors causing brake shuddering. I highly recommend Hawk HPS pads. Have your rotors turned or replace them when installing new pads to ensure optimum performance."

"The characteristics that are shown and claims that Hawk make about these pads prove themselves after a few miles of driving. I have never used pads that provide such consistency in every application of the pedal. The only down side--may not be the "biggest bang for the buck." If you want absolute top grade though regardless of the price, these pads will meet your expectations."
