Slam on the brakes and check out this informative interview from the 2011 SEMA Show in which AutoAnything’s Elly Brown met with Edwin Mangune of Hawk Performance Group. Edwin started right off the line with a demo of the Hawk HPS, or “High Performance Street” brake pad set. We learned the HPS brake set is a great first level upgrade. For example, if you have anything from a performance car to a Lincoln Continental, but want to go beyond stock or consumer-grade pads, Hawk HPS pads are a great entry into the world of performance braking. Another great feature of the HPS pads is that, though they are aggressive, they are formulated from ferro carbon to be gentle on your rotors.
Edwin also talked about another Hawk product in their Street line, the LTS, or “Light Truck Street,” for half-ton or larger trucks and SUVs. These pads have the same formulation, but support your bigger rides. Next, Edwin rolled out one of Hawk’s premium slotted rotors. He highlighted the build quality and proprietary slotting pattern that not only helps to dissipate heat, but also creates a quieter braking experience. Further, he explained that even though they did so much more than OE rotors, they tipped the scales at the same weight as stock rotors. Finally, Mr. Mangune covered the history of Hawk Performance Group with lineage going all the way back to Henry Ford.
