"Order arrived very quickly. I talked to a friend who had one on his truck at work and he said he had a liitle trouble with the installation. When mine arrived I had the door on and working in less than 20 minutes. It couldn't have been easier. When the wife found out I ordered the door, she wasn't too happy to say the least! Once it was installed she was very impressed."

Locking Fuel Door

"Two of the mounting screws supplied were too short to accommodate the thickness of body panel (2003 Silverado Stepside)on hinge side of door. An e-mail to AMI was all it took to have longer screws sent no charge. Excellent product. Outstanding customer service."

"I purchased this door since GM discontinued making locking gas caps for models newer than 03'. The installation was easy,and the door looks awesome. I just advise taking your time getting the factory door off. It is then just a matter of aligning the screws and tightening it in. I had the whole project done in about 10 minutes."

Good looks, poor design

"I purchased an AMI fuel door for my '99 Dodge Durango, part# 6044KL - black ring and door, locking. Installation: relatively easy, but not simple. Orig. door is secured with Torx head screws, not a common type. AMI door install requires reaching up from behind and underneath the quarter panel to secure nuts on 2 studs, in combo with plastic spacers. Not difficult, but cumbersome. Door is further secured by 2 studs that protrude into the fuel filler cavity and requires installing 2 nuts, with absolutely no room for a wrench, as the flanges that were used to accept the original screws are in the way. Also, no provision on AMI door to attach the orig. tether (I wrapped it around one of the new studs so I can still tether the cap when unscrewed.), and no collar on inside of door to rest the cap in, as on the orig. door. But the biggest obstacle is the lack of clearance between the locking mechanism and the fuel cap. The cap must now be screwed on such that the raised bar running across the top of the cap stops (after ratcheting) in a vertical position. Otherwise the lock will not clear. And since the AMI door is smaller in diameter than the orig. (the entire AMI door + ring fits inside the orig. door cavity), there is less room to manuever the cap than w/ orig. door. Should prove interesting in winter with gloves on! The price I paid for a locking door, I suppose! In summary, nice product, good comparative price at autoanything (though still seems like a lot for a hunk of aluminum!), but design leaves a little to be desired."

"The purchase was for the bright keyed model. Promptly shipped and installation was very easy with a set of small offset open box wrenches I had. It was done in 20 minutes and really dressed the candy apple finish well. Quality is very high and well engineered. A very high end product well worth the price."

"Overall installation is simple enough but the overall fit is disappointing. Got the all black version with a locking door. One side in held in place by two threaded rubber grommets (the remaining two mounting points are actual metal nuts and bolts). Kind of defeats the whole reason for getting a locking fuel door."

"Really nice looking fuel door and well made. The locking isn't the most secure but the looks make up for it. I had to bend and grind the latch to get it to lock the way I wanted it, so be prepared to have to bend the latch for adjustment. Really stands out and looks good."

"Fairly easy to install, looks nice. Would be nice if it curved to match the curvature of the side of the truck. Installation could be more secure on the right hand side where rubber fillers are used. I replaced with washers and nuts."
