Everything went smoothly until I had to modify the locking mechanism on the side...I had to shave and shave on that thing in order to get the door to lock, cuz until you can do that it leaves your gas open to the public...I guess if you have all the proper tools you can get it done in a jiffy, but if you're a novice with minimal tools you will get frustrated...

I have a black F150 and I thought the black fuel cap would be the more aesthetic choice for me. I should note that the fuel cap is a matte black. It doesn't blend in with the shiny black exterior of the truck. I was bothered by this at first (I was expecting something more polished), but now I love it. Installation is a breeze! The only thing that was a drag was having to modify the locking mechanism. The instructions said that it was possible that the lock would have to be bent or trimmed, and this was the case for me. The lock wouldn't shut until I trimmed about 4mm off with a Dremmel. Sort of a pain, but worth it. I love the product!

Sharp appearance. Love the look. Purchased locking door. Would not lock, had to take the locking lever to shop to get grinded down to fit. I was not aware it would not lock with out having special work done. The door appears to be to heavy for the plastic door holder. The fit is just not perfect.

Everything about this locking fuel door is great with the exception of the lock mechanism itself. Like the instructions indicate, some grinding was necassary to get a proper fit while locking.

Overall the quality and look of the locking fuel door are excellent for the price. As with many of the reviews that I read on-line I experienced problems in getting the proper fit with the locking tab on the lock mechanism. This required considerable grinding, bending and dressing of the tab, but I finally got the fit I wanted. Also, the swing-arm for the fuel door on my 2005 F-150 could not accommodate the added weight of new billet aluminum fuel door that well so it sagged some. This may not be the case for other trucks provided they have a sturdy swing-arm mechanism. Since the OEM non-locking fuel door was plastic or light composite, perhaps the only way to correct the sag would be a thinner billet fuel door.

The price and the look is a good deal. But there was a problem getting the door to close. I had to cut off some of the latch to get the door to close.

Overall this fuel door is great. Its sturdy and it looks great, not to mention having purchased the locking version gives me a little peace of mind with these high gas prices. The only gripe I have is that during install I had to grind down the locking mechanism in order for it to lock correctly. But the instructions clearly stated that it would potentially have to be done. So it wasnt a total suprise.
