The quality of the muffler and piping was great. However, expect to either have someone weld it or find better clamps becasue the ones that come in this kit are terrible. You can tighten the clamp all the way down and still pull the pipe out.

Looks and sounds great. Had to cut 1/2 inch off tailpipe section to improve fit. Would not clear gastank skidplate. Came with wrong size clamps (2.25" vice 2.50"), but Flowmaster had then at my house the next day. Did notice an improvement in MPG along with the great sound.

AS always AutoAnything has provided Great service, shipping, value and information. But I feel flowmaster dropped the ball on their instruction and directions, the quality is great just a little more time to clarify some of the install notes and pictures would really help the novice. I installed this system alone in about 2 hours, I can see where someone with little mechanic knowledge would be stumped. The system is perfect, low rumble at an idle kickass when you want.

    Axle-Back vs Cat-Back Exhaust?

What are the benefits between the two? I want to feel more power, hear more growl and get better HP out of my Dodge Ram.

    Answers (1)

    Staff Answer

    Answered by Nathan S. — Jan 21, 2013 12:47 PM

Hi Andrew, Upgrading your exhaust system is definitely a good way to increase HP, torque, mileage and add a nice growl to your rig. Where space and installation simplicity permits, a Cat-Back system is used to replace the factory mufflers and tubing. Your Dodge is a perfect candidate for system like this, as the exhaust components are right out in the open for easy replacement. An Axle-Back system is found almost entirely in performance cars that compact exhaust systems, suspension and gas tanks into small areas, and is good alternative to hours of parts removal just to get all of the stock tubing out. Either style of exhaust increases performance by replacing the mufflers with high flow units, but the Cat-Back system holds and advantage as it replaces a larger portion of the restrictive factory tubing with smooth mandrel bends. And, if you have a cold air intake already installed on your truck, it will perform better with a cat-back system on the other end. One thing holds true for all engines regardless of size or brand: The more exhaust that exits an engine, the more efficiently fresh air can be drawn in, which equals more power.

The factory tubing causes exhaust restriction as well, so a cat-back system tends to make a bit more power in most cases. Both kits give you a little more sound, it's going to be comparable.

It looks like we only offer the Flomaster American System in a dual exhaust for the 3.0L at the moment. You will see gains of approximately 8-12 hp with the Flowmaster system. You can also throw a programmer into the equation to maximize your Ranger's performance. Flowmaster Exhaust Superchips Programmer

The Flowmaster Force II system part # 817573 would be a great addition to your truck and for the best price around. The kit gives you the option to have the tailpipes exit behind the rear tires or under the bumper, allowing you to tune the sound of your truck and best of all, will increase your fuel mileage to the tune of 1-3 mpg depending on your driving style.

    Staff Answer

    Answered by Nathan S. — Jun 20, 2012 8:39 AM 1995 Ford F-150

The exhaust system bolts on after the catalytic converter and will not fix your situation. The good news is that it could possibly be an oxygen sensor and not the catalytic converter. Possibly, the code means that a pre-cat oxygen sensor could be seeing something that the post-cat oxygen sensor is not, which would make the computer think that the catalytic converter is clogged when it may not be. An OBDII scanner usually wont tell you what the exact problem is, but it will point you in the right direction for further diagnosis.

Definetely does not sound like the beefy 8 cylinder Hemi!! Answers (1)

    Answered by Joe S. — Mar 18, 2012 2:27 PM 2012 Nissan Frontier

Headers will connect to a down pipe which goes into a cat convertor and after the cat there is a flange that the catback system goes onto. For the headers, you will need piping (called a downpipe) to get you to either a testpipe (cat-less) or cat convertor, once again connecting through flanges.
