Selecting the Correct Exhaust Tip
The team of dedicated gearheads at AutoAnything has scoured the globe to bring you our wide selection of custom exhaust tips. Why? Because we want to be sure that you're getting the perfect exhaust tips for your vehicle. The choices are many, but you can find the right exhaust tips fast by asking yourself these 3 questions:
One design isn't necessarily better than the other, but they are quite different. A few key points must be considered before choosing your exhaust tip.
- Are easy to install with minimal tools—usually a wrench is all that's needed
- Offer instant satisfaction and style—just open the package and clamp it on
- Make changing your style a snap—unlike permanent welds, it's easy to unbolt one tip and install another
- Require periodic tightening of the clamp to prevent the tip from slipping off
- Are not as secure from the sticky fingers of degenerate thieves
- Are the preferred style of industry professionals
- Are totally secure—they won't come loose and are virtually theft-proof
- Must be welded into place
- May require professional installation if you don't have a welder or the experience
To ensure that you order the correct size exhaust tip, 3 sizes must be known:
- Inlet Size:
The inlet measurement on the exhaust tip must match the diameter of your tailpipe.
- Outlet Size:
This is the size of the exhaust side of your tip. Some tips flare out, some are straight. If your vehicle's body has a cut-out for an exhaust tip, make sure the new one will clear this area to avoid an unsightly fit, or even worse, burning or scorching your vehicle's body.
- Length:
This measurement determines how far out your tip is going to extend. Just as with outlet size, you must consider the locations of any factory cut-outs. You also want to make sure that the hot exhaust gasses will be exiting safely.
Both materials are great for building high-quality exhaust tips. If you're looking for economical style, go with the chromed steel. If you seek a long-lasting luster and a material that stands up to years of abuse, stainless steel is your answer.
- Inexpensive
- Lighter than stainless steel
- Less tolerant to long-term abuse
- Prone to rust once the chrome layer is compromised
- Polished, not plated
- Extremely resistant to corrosion
- Provides years of service and still gleams
- Costs more than chromed steel

Fun with Whistle Tips
WOOOWOOOO! Want to make a statement and get your neighbors attention at the same time? If violating your local noise ordinances isn't a problem, go for a whistle tip. Heard from over a mile away, a whistle tip is a device welded inside an exhaust tip that causes the exhaust to exit with a deafeningly loud WOOOWOOOO whistle. Two famous proponents of the whistle tips are Oakland, CA whistlers Bubb Rubb and Lil' Sis . In the now infamous news report branding the whistle tips as a public nuisance, Lil' Sis explains that they're "Just fo' decoration. That's it, and that's all." And Bubb Rubb argues that his tips simply serve as a friendly alarm clock for the neighbors, who should be up cooking breakfast for someone anyway. It's this kind of community consciousness that makes our world a better place.
