Works as advertised

Posted on 08/18/2006 by Charles G. - 2005 Honda Accord (Corinth,TX)

"The install on my 2003 Avalanche was relatively easy - the hardest part was hacksawing through the "old" system to remove it (Gibson says it's 'recommended', I say it's 'required' as there doesn't appear to be any way to remove the old pipe without cutting it). Once the old system was off, the new one went on in about 45 minutes. Fitment is excellent - everything mounted up with no problems. I'd recommend using an off the shelf exhaust system sealer product (such as Permatex hi-temp) on the connections or having them welded by a muffler shop after a self-install. The provided clamps work fine when new, but I'd be concerned with leaks over time if the joints weren't sealed. I'd rate the "sound" as slightly louder than stock, certainly not annoying. No improved MPG, a slight improvement in throttle response. There's no apparent "payback" by installing this system, but your truck will certainly sound like a truck."

Gibson SS Exhaust for Ford V10

Posted on 08/16/2006 by David H. - 2008 Ford F250 (Bethalto,IL)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"Fit and finish is exellent and it when on like a factory unit. After 200 miles, I took it off....too loud, sounded like a ricer with a fart can muffler, lost low end torque, towing was now unacceptable, and mpg went down. Biggest misrepresentation of a performance system I have ever seen. I would not recommend this system to my worst enemy. The roaring when towing was the final straw...I went 50 miles and had a muffler shop put on the original system....awful and totally misrepresented by the factory...."

"This product went on a 2005 Chevy Colorado and I am thoroughly impressed. Installation was easy with the correct tools, appearance and sound is astounding, and there is an obvious power gain. Inside cab noise is low and outside noise is an aggressive growl. Shipping was extremely fast. Thanks to Gibson and AutoAnything!"

Not as advertised

Posted on 08/02/2006 by Peter M. (Bristol,CT)

"Here is a quote off of Gibson's website: "Secondly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY in the reduction of turbulence, is our “slip fit” joining of all components. (Each pipe fits into the larger opening of the next downstream exhaust pipe.)" This is not true with my Colorado exhaust. The tailpipe fit INTO the muffler and would not clamp down properly. When I called customer service, they said they did it this way to save money. They also told me it made no difference in performance despite the above quote. I fixed the leaky joints myself, but am disappointed in this system. While the stainless tips are nice quality, they are quite big and out of proportion for the vehicle."

"Gibson's Split Rear exhaust arrived with all the needed parts. It was easy to install in about 2 hours and fits perfectly. The sound difference was amazing with out being to harse, but it is louder than I thought it would be. It sure turns alot of heads on the road! I would highly recommend it.IM not sure of any gas savings because it seems to encourage a little more use of the throttle. Great product."

Dodge Ram 5.7L Hemi

Posted on 07/25/2006 by Steve P. - 2006 Dodge Ram (Granite Bay,CA)

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.

"Excellent exhaust system for the price with quality material offered by AutoAnything. Straight forward clamp-on installation using existing hangers, except for a 20 inch spare tire that required a modification for proper clearance from heat. I cut a 4 inch piece out of the tail pipe several inches from the muffler outlet and used an external clamp to obtain the proper angle to clear the spare tire by about 2 inches and to keep the tail pipe far enough away from the underside of the bed. Gibson's web site notes that this exhaust will not clear a 20 inch spare tire. The exhaust system made a big improvement for a power increase and a mellow roar which dramatically increases with throttle response. I also have installed a K&N cone air filter and 3in intake tube, which compliment each other for performace. Using a light oil on the rubber hanger attachments make it easy to slide off and on. I'm satisfied with the results of this product."

"I give high regaurds to this exhaust system. It was a pretty easy install. The tone isnt as loud as I expected, but it sure sounds good. Personally i think it is laid out a much better then the dual flowmaster system i puchased previous to this one. (the bends are of higher quality and no 90 degree bends either)"

Great quiet performance exhaust

Posted on 07/04/2006 by Josh B. (Seattle,WA)

"Installed the aluminized version on my 2006 Xterra. It adds a deeper, growlier tone to the exhaust note compared to stock. The sound is very mellow though -it is still extremely quiet on the highway or when driving normally. Stepping on the throttle brings it to life, though it still isn't loud. Hard to say if any power gains are to be had, but the the throttle is certainly more responsive. Combined with my K&N intake I added there is a definite increase in horsepower. Downsides: the exhaust for the 2nd gen Xterras is not side swept, and the tip is fairly large so you have to be careful not to burn yourself as it extends beyond the bumper of the truck."
