Gibson Exhaust - Swept Side for 2005 Sequoia

Posted on 08/30/2005 by Kevin B. - 2005 Toyota Sequoia (Salisbury,NC)

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.

"I ordered this exhaust for my wife's 2005 Toyota Sequoia. It took about 1 hour to remove the stock exhaust and install this. It is truly bolt-on and it's a snap to install. I love it way it sounds and the extra performance it give the vehicle. I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a low-cost exhaust system which will give your truck a better sound and a little extra performance."

Gibson free flow go!

"Folks, I had a friend at a shop help me put it on..and with a little playing with it and re-reading the instructions we got it installed.. about 2 hours. We ran the truck on the lift feeling for leaks at the joints. and had to adjust the camp at the first joint closest to the cat. The quality of the product looks and fits very well. I have drivin the truck 600 miles since the install and sounds good... quiet!! but you can now hear it alittle where before you couldnt tell what kind of engine the truck had. The truck is a 4.2 v6 5speed standard-cab shortbed- stepside. I imediately felt an increase in power and faster reviing. Im not sure about the mileage but I did take trips at a high rate of speed and up and down mountains and I think that all things considered it helped the engine run its best. I ran speeds of 80mph+ with the air on and still got 18.5 mpg. The truck has a K and N air filter and vinyl tonnoeau cover. I know that if I drove at 65mph I would get 20mpg or better. In the past the best I could get was 17mpg at 65mph. Thanks for the great service too. Regards, Jeffrey Steiner Mesa, Arizona"

"I was suspect at first when I placed the order that the sound would be somewhat offensive to passengers in the truck. I must say that I was pleasantly pleased when I first started the unit. Great sound, not at all offensive. Compliments keep coming on how great the sound is. Very pleased with the product."

Good sound, great performance

Posted on 08/30/2005 by Travis R. - 2001 Ford Explorer (Lopatcong,NJ)

"I installed the Gibson Swept Side Exhaust on my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, and wow what a difference in the sound and performance. The tone is a little bit of a lower rumble, and while it is a little bit louder up above 3000 rpm, it is not a significant difference from stock. Stepping on the gas emits a louder growl of the engine, and you can definitely feel an increase in horsepower (although dont expect it too much, it's not turbo boost). Enough to make passing easier and let the engine breathe a little better. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 was that it was more difficult to install than the instructions led me to believe. I would recommend that if you are a novice, have it installed by a local muffler shop."

Posted on 08/30/2005 by Robert M. - 2001 Nissan Frontier (Deatsville,AL)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"I have a 2001 Nissan Frontier. After putting this exhaust on its like my truck can finially breathe. It gave me a lot more power and helped on gas too. The sound is also great it not a loud anoying sound but it a low mellow rumble that increases with intensity as you increase thottle. The only bad thing was the bolt-on installation was not easy. The brackets were not in the right place so I had to fabricate some new ones and/or heat and bend the ones that came on the pipe. It is still well worth the benifit of this exhaust. By far the best exhaust I've ever had on a vehicle."

Great Exhaust

Posted on 08/29/2005 by Shawn F. - 1989 Ford Ranger (Hamden,CT)

"Great exhaust, very easy to install and it looks great. It's a little pricey, but the fact that it is stainless steel means that I will never have to replace it again (I used to replace stock exhausts every 3 to 4 years). Not as loud as I expected, but the truck is definitely peppier with the new pipe. The fact that it was simply bolt-on installation was probably the best feature. Provided it lasts as long as I am expecting it to, I would purchase one again. Cheers!"

Easy Install - Nice Touch

Posted on 08/29/2005 by Glenn S. - 2002 Ford Expedition (Tigard,OR)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.

"The Gibson exhaust system was one of the easiest installations I've ever done. My appplication is a 2002 Ford Expedition with a 5.4 V8. I've worked on cars for for about forty years and have seen my share of so called "bolt-on" kits. The Gibson was truly as advertised. I performed the install in my driveway and start to finish was about 90 minutes. The instructions suggest the use of a Sawzall (good call) and it certainly expedited the removal of the stock unit. I cut the exhaust pipe just after the catalytic converter flange and also just before the rear muffler. I'm pleased with the sound (very mellow and really un-noticable from inside the car except at wide open throttle). The polished 3" tip looks right at home. My mileage went from 11.6 to 13.4 (especially nice with todays gas prices!). Thanks for a great product!"

Sweet sound!

Posted on 08/27/2005 by Billy B. - 2003 Toyota Tundra (Chesapeake,VA)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"Everything needed to install this kit (minus the wrenchs) was supplied. Fit is great, looks extremely good on my truck. This has a very mellow, yet aggressive sound that just gets bigger when you kick it. I also saw an increase in my MPG when driving normally. The kit took about two hours to install, and I checked a local shop for an estimate of about $100 for them to install the kit on my truck."

Gibson swept side

Posted on 08/26/2005 by Dennis S. - 2004 Dodge Dakota (Norwich,CT)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"The best thing about the Gibson swept side exhaust is the easy installation. Which means it is easy to remove also.I was under the assumption it was meant to GAIN horsepower and fuel economy. My fuel economy dropped 3-5 MPG with it and no power gain to be found. I cut it off and re-installed the stock. It seems to hold up well against rust sitting in my backyard. Overall, you could say, I'm not too happy with it."

Easy Install

Posted on 08/25/2005 by Shanin P. - 2004 Toyota Tundra (St. Joseph,MO)

"This had to be the easiest install I ever did. We put it on a Toyota Tundra, and the old exhaust came off with one bolt...how simple was that. The exhaust went on easy..sounds great...not too loud, but enough to let you know there is a v-8 there. Looks good too."

poor showing

Posted on 08/25/2005 by Ralph S. - 2004 Ford F-250 (Alta Loma,CA)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.

"I installed my exhaust system in a few hours. It started off being somewhat easy, but then when I had it all installed I found that the "Over the axle pipe" was loose in the muffler. No matter how I tried to tighten it with the supplied clamp, it wouldn't keep the pipe from easily rotating in the muffler. The clamp was tightened so much that it started to break, and I had to stop, and buy a new one. Finally I took the system off the truck, and made four cuts down the muffler outlet stub, then the clamp tightened. This was poor manufacturing on Gibson's part. When I called them they seemed to be a bit flippant about the whole problem. They told me they would call back after they looked into the problem, but after a week with no call from them I called again. They had no Idea who I was or what my problem was. All in all I was nicely brushed off. No more Gibson products for me ever."

03 Dge Rm 1500 Install

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"Sounds Great. Wife will not ride in truck anymore though. Only snag during install- hangars not lining up with original mounts on the truck. Instructions call for cuting the pipe 12 inches from the cat, but that is not enough to line up the hangars and rubber gromets on the 03 Ram 1500."
