Almost Direct Fit - 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3 liter

Reviewed By Joshua H (Chesterfield, VA) Reviewed for a 1997 Ford Ranger —7/14/2010 5:41 PM

1997 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder (2.3 liter) My old original catalytic converter had a crack right across the middle and could not pass inspection. I found the Magnaflow converter pipe at a good price here at and I have used Magnaflow products in the past on other vehicles with good results. The fit and finish of the pipe was good with clean welds and quality steel. The only problem I had was in the installation. The worst part of the install was that the bolt holes in the cat. converter flange that connects to the exhaust manifold were wider than the holes in the manifold flange. I had to drill out both holes by almost an inch to make a slot in the flange so the bolts could line up. Since they did make it out of good thick steel the drilling took me a while and really dulled by 1/2 inch drill bit. Also the flared end of the pipe that connects with the exhaust manifold was a little larger than stock. It worked but for it to seal correctly and not have any exhaust leaks it had to be in just the right position. I had to use a bottle jack to keep the pipe in place until I could tighten down the bolts. I am fairly sure this was not just my truck since the 95 - 97 Ford Ranger 2.3 all have the same exhaust manifold.

Side Exit Exhaust for 97 Ranger 4.0

Reviewed By Josh B (Berrien Springs, MI) Reviewed for a 1997 Ford Ranger —1/30/2009 1:15 PM

This exhaust is exactly what i was hoping for. It is obviously high quality and extreamly easy to install. There was not a huge increase on the low end power, although i have not tried towing anything with it yet, so im not totally sure. No real change on the MPG, but ive been punching the skinny pedal alot more though. There was a definite increase in mid-range power, making passing and accelerating at speed much better, and the sxhaust tone is bueatiful. Definately worth the money. Autoanything is the cheapest retailer around, trust me, i checked for over two months. Great product at a great deal. Thanks

This is a nice exhaust kit. It sounds great on my truck and has a nice deep tone especially when I step on the gas. I did have to modify the hangers and bend the pipe to get it just right. Overall it was a great buy for the price.
