"We live in the beautiful, green mountains of south-central New Mexico. Unfortunately, this year was predicted to be a light snow year and so far, it's true.
Like the other reviews, the hardest part of the install was getting the fill spout to unfold. Had to use pliers; be careful! You can damage the plastic filler neck if you use the wrong tool. Hard to gauge the 3 inch fill recommendation; we used a plastic ruler. So far, the ShurTrax is working as advertised. The added wt. helps with ride quality. Of course the 4.6L works a bit harder, but we expected that. Hopefully, we will see some snow soon and can test it as it was intended. Ours is secured with rubber hook straps and has held securely. Have hauled heavy cardboard boxes and large, full plastic storage bins on top of the ShurTrax with no problem. Some nights, the water freezes completely, but the bag has held. Thus far, a quality product that seems to work as advertised."

"Just as described and does just what I need in the winter for more traction. I was able to test this out on packed snow and ice, other cars couldn't even climb the hill and I didn't even need 4x4. The only drawback is the fill feels cheap and fits poorly, hopefully this will not be an issue in later years."

"Nice product and easy to install - just tie it off so avoid slipping and fill with water. I did have a problem extending the fill spout using the pull tabs - be careful. The plastic nozzle is quite rigid when cold. Other than that - it should work fine and provide enough weight to keep the rear in touch with the road."

"The ShurTrax bed weight system is everything that I expected from the reviews. It was easy to install and fill, and it actually improves the ride of the truck (although the acceleration is not quite as good). I recommend that you buy straps from Home Depot (or similar) to secure as mine did move when I started fast from a light and made an immediate sharp turn."

"I have tried sand bags, actual weight plates you see in a gym. The weights never stayed in place and the sand was a HUGE mess. The ShurTrax is BY FAR a fantastic idea that I have already recommended to a few of my coworkers with pickups. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!!!!!"

"It does a good job providing traction. The fitting that allows you to connect a garden hose is worthless. Neither set of threads will tighten enough to stop leaking, so the only way to fill it is to hold the hose in place and not worry about getting everything wet."

"the full size provides a great way to get traction in all weather. i found that it does not move around at all on my vehicle, so no straps neccessary. this may be a different case according to which truck you own or bed lining. didn't really notice a change in gas mileage when full, but i also have a gaylords fiberglass x2000 tonneau cover with speedstur wing also purchased from autoanything. Thanks for doing business guys."

"Only problem: It doesn;t come with cords to keep it from sliding (the front was harder). Second problem: there's no place on the Ford Ranger to attach the front of the weight. Fortunately, I have a Bed liner and made a doohickey out of wood with round thingees to tie the bag to, that went across the bed at the front - Problem Solved.
The wieght over ther rear wheels makes a huge difference - really, reallyl noticeable on wet roads. Great safety device. Improves the ride, too."

"The ShurTrax is an excellent product. It does what it claims. The added weight has helped me with very icy conditions with my Toyota Tacoma. The valve is difficult to pull out and I had to adjust the water level a couple times to get it right. Otherwise, very helpful and a lot cleaner, manageable and better looking than using sand bags, or cinder blocks."

"The product serves it's purpose. It appears durable enough and certainly adds weight and traction. Best of all, it is about as easy as can be to throw it in and get it filled. A couple areas needing improvement: The hose fitting worked ok, but the intake valve needs a removable stopper. As soon as you unscrew the hose, water comes gushing out. Also, it would have been great to have adjustable ties or straps (even if offered as an option only)."

"The ShurTrax traction weight system is a handy device to put weight where you need it.
I found it a no brainer to use. Once I placed it in my truck bed and used four straps to
ensure it would stay in place I used the included hose adapter and filled it with water
as instructed. I was suprised after putting so much water into it how easy it is to cap off.
I would recommend that if you purchase this product for your car that you fill it and then
put it into the trunk, especialy in the dead of winter. I drove around with ShurTrax for a week
before it got cold enough to freeze. During that time I had no problems of shifting weight
like I did with other options to increase traction. I was able to put a load on top of it too.
I did put a plastic sheet designed to hold leaf bags open, as extra protection while hauling stuff.
The company doesn't advocate this is far as I know, I just thought it was common sense.
After the product froze and some snow fell, I did a little traveling on roads where drifting snow
had blown accross the road, making passage across it hazardous, despite road crew efforts. ShurTrax
really demonstrated its value during this outing. I had no problems of lost traction while
traversing these deceptive conditions. I havn't had a chance to drain it so that I can remove it.
However, the necessity is comming up soon because I want to do a little work on the truck bed. I'll
pull it into my garage overnight to thaw the system then back out into the driveway to drain it
on a nice sunny day. The extra plus is once I do this I can fold it up and put it away in a much
smaller space than comparable set ups like sand bags or a skid with cinder blocks locked down on
it. Additionally since the biggest part of the weight can be easily shed, I won't break my back
wrestling it in and out as with other setups. Everyone who has seen it wants one, so I guess I
would buy it again! ShurTrax, I think you have a winner on your hands."

"PROS:
Works as advertised and fits.
Even outs Truck height.
Truck no long spins tires in wet weather.
Smoothes out ride.
Can be removed and stored.
I have not gotten to us it in snow yet, so I can't evaluate its effectiveness.
CONS:
Did not come with bungee cords to tie it down to the truck bed.
Plastic filler neck is a flimsy.
Without very strong bungee cords it will move in you truck bed a little.
Overall it is a good product and gives your truck more traction and a smother ride. I would recommend it if traction is an issue with your truck."

"Although I have a full size truck, I opted for the medium size Shuretrax to leave more bed room. I saw a noticeable difference in traction right away. Although it beats blocks and sand it will still shift if you have to make a drastic manuever. It needs to be secured in the bed using the grommets!"
