Dee Zee Tailgate Assist Customer Reviews

Whether your pickup is fresh off the dealership lot or a little long in the tooth, its tailgate is likely suffering from an age-old problem: premature opening. You know the symptoms. Every time you pull the handle, it crashes down against your bumper, your fingers or your Weimaraner’s skull. To cure what ails your truck, install the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist and never fear a flaccid hatch again.
As simple as it is genius, the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist adds a heavy-duty shock absorber to your stock tailgate hardware. Every time you open up your tailgate, the Dee Zee Tailgate Damper is there to control how fast it drops. And, unlike those flimsy screen-door dampeners, Dee Zee uses only premium components that can withstand constant use and abuse.
You and your drill might be best friends, but you won’t have to dust it off to install the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist. It’s completely custom designed to bolt into place and play nice with your stock hardware. And, the Dee Zee Tailgate Lift Assist is backed by a 3-year warranty.

Dee Zee Tailgate Assist really helps dropping my tail gate on my Super Duty Ford, it's very heavy and now my wife can open and drop the gate when loading grocery's. No more heavy lift

The Tailgate Assist is a great invention but has two areas that need work. Inserting the threaded adapter into the tailgate was a frustrating process, there needs to be an easier method. Second, after less than 8 months, the lower fitting on the Assist failed. It fittings need to be sturdier. That said, I immediately purchased a replacement for the one that failed because the Assist makes opening the tail gate so much easier, especially if your hands are full. I still recommend them.

Is there a way to adjust the tension on the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist? It would be perfect if it opened a little slower. Thanks

Hi Blake, Unfortunately there is no way to adjust the tension at this time.

The item says fits all F150 models, however after I received it I found out that DeeZee does not have one compatible with my 2001 F150 Supercrew. Has anyone installed this anyway and has an alteration to make it work?

I see these sell as single pieces. Is one enough, or do you need two (one for each side of the tailcate)?
