Whether your pickup is fresh off the dealership lot or a little long in the tooth, its tailgate is likely suffering from an age-old problem: premature opening. You know the symptoms. Every time you pull the handle, it crashes down against your bumper, your fingers or your Weimaraner's skull. To cure what ails your truck, install the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist and never fear a flaccid hatch again.
As simple as it is genius, the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist adds a heavy-duty shock absorber to your stock tailgate hardware. Every time you open up your tailgate, the Dee Zee Tailgate Damper is there to control how fast it drops. And, unlike those flimsy screen-door dampeners, Dee Zee uses only premium components that can withstand constant use and abuse.
You and your drill might be best friends, but you won't have to dust it off to install the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist. It's completely custom designed to bolt into place and play nice with your stock hardware. And, the Dee Zee Tailgate Lift Assist is backed by a 3-year warranty.

Bought it for safety reason. I didn't want the tailgate to drop too fast and hit the kids. When installing, instruction says 9 full turns for the nut. I marked the nut and did as such but it is still loose. Almost returned the item. It turns out that I needed 12. best way to find out is to use the ball bolt to measure if you need extra or not. Other wise, great product!!

I bought the Dee Zee tailgate assist for my Ram after having the tailgate slam down after opening it on several occasions.I searched for a solution and found the DEE Zee assist.I buy all of my truck products from Auto Anything so it was a no brainer to go through them.My order was shipped in a week.It took me about 20 minutes to put it on and I followed the installation instructions on the You Tube video which was specific for my Ram.The assist works great and no more slams.

Most other reviewers gave this five stars but commented on the Nutsert being difficult to deal with; I agree. Once installed, the Tailgate Assist works as advertised - it's great! But about the Nutsert ... it spins, so counting the wrench turns doesn't work. I had to guess when it was tight enough by looking at the thread engagement of the ball stud, matching it to the picture in the instructions. Fortunately, that did work without stripping the threads.
