Description

Headlight glare and your rear view mirror make a dangerous combination. Eliminate this volatile mixture with the Gentex K21 Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror.

The K21 Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror detects dangerous rear-approaching light and eliminates it with "intelligent" circuitry. What's more, less glare means less eyestrain and driver fatigue.

As if that weren't enough, the K21 Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror comes with a self-calibrating digital display compass. The mirror even has an exterior thermometer that displays temps and ice warnings.

The windshield-mounted mirror comes complete with detailed installation instructions and all necessary hardware - perfect for the experienced do-it-yourselfer or professional installer with some wiring required. And, the Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror comes with 3-year / 36, 000 mile warranty. See what a difference the K21 Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror can make.

Notes

  • Installation of the mirror's electronic components requires some hard wiring (see Installation Guide tab for details)
  • The Gentex Wire Cover is highly recommended if there is 3" or more space between your mirror and the headliner. It conceals otherwise loose and visible wires running to the mirror. Select this part under "optional accessories" above.

"This is an excellent product. It was a complete package and a buddy of mine came over and we both put them in our trucks. The job took about a hour and fifteen minutes each and you cannot tell them from factory.I had estimates from dealers as high as $560.00 with a little time you can do it yourself. The service ordering was great and the instructions were clear and to the point.Great Product!!!!"

"My Tacoma did not have a compass or temp guage so by adding this I got both plus an auto dimming mirror. The install in my vehicle took about 5 hrs but mostly because I one of the quick connects off the temp cable pulling it thru the firewall, so be careful. I actually found accessory power in the overhead counsel and tapped into that, it was easy to find with a meter and only had to run the temp cable all the way up. I works and looks great and is so nice to have outside temp now!"

"Installation was very easy on the 2000 Nissan Frontier Pickup. No problems at all and it works great. Took about 1 1/2 hours. Installation was a little harder on the 2005 VW Golf because of the covers under the dash and under the hood. It is pretty hard to get the wires where they should go. Took about 3 hours and once in it works great. Could not get the glue off for the old mirror but just left it and it doesn't bother anything and you don't notice it."

"The mirror works great. I thought it would bother me having the temp/compass in the mirror, but you get use to it. The auto dimming feature works in an instant and beats having to change the mirror manually. The installation took a while to complete (about 2 hours). The biggest challenge is routing the wires. Be sure to get someone to help. Once calibrated the compass is dead on. (Don't forget to set the zone.) The instructions were well done, but this installation shouldn't be your first. If you've installed a stereo or anything similar you can handle this."

"I took the mirror to a local shop to have it installed. It was done in about an hour and looks great. I love the auto dimming, it is very nice when bright lights are behind you. I love having a temp in the car. That way I know how cold it is and if the roads are possibly slick."

"The +12 and ground contacts were reversed in the connector when I got the unit. After I fixed those, everything worked great. Display is easy to read, autodimming works well, although it would be nice to have a way to set the sensitivity - I'd like to make it a little more aggressive."

A Perfect Fit

"My wife's 2007 Mercury Mariner came equipped with a factory auto-dimming mirror and compass, but no external temperature. Checking with the dealership they told me the only way to add it was to install a new rear-view mirror with that capability. Sounded easy enough until they told me it was going to cost about $500 installed ($400/mirror and $100/labor). I decided to check around myself. If found the Gentex K21 for half the price, and after looking at several reviews and the installation manual, decided I could pull it off my self. I have very little experience with automotive electrical systems so I was still a little nervous. I wasn't worried about running the temp. sensor, but the other wires had me a litte nervous. Luckily the factory harness that plugs into the back of the mirror was identical to the one Gentex so all I had to do was run the temp. sensor and plug it in. The mirrors looked very similar, so unless the wiring harness is some sort of industy standard, I'm guessing they were both made by Gentex. I got off lucky, but I'm guessing that anybody with any know-how should be able to install this with no problem. Lesson learned: Do your homework and don't be afraid to take a chance. It saved me over $300."
