"I purchased this mirror to replace the OEM mirror on my '02 Nissan Maxima. Now my Maxima came with an auto-dimming mirror, but it didn't have the built-in compass so I decided to replace it with the Gentex K5.
This mirror is a simply plug and play, no real installation required other than removing the old mirror. Here I was thinking I had to remove trim pieces andrun some wiring, but not with this particular model.
The Gentex works just as well as my OEM mirror. Like that one I only wished that the dimming was slightly more powerful, but the compass works like a charm."

"Easy installation. Once I figured out how to remove the original mirror in my Subaru Forester, it was very easy. The removal instructions for foreign car mirrors were included on another sheet which somehow became separated from the main packet. The OEM wiring plugged right into the new mirror without any modifications."

"The rearview mirror in my '99 Grand Prix recently started leaking dimming fluid so I decided to replace it with a Gentex mirror since I'd heard such good things about them. This K5 mirror is a great replacement and was so easy to install. I pulled the existing wires out of the stock mirror connector and installed them into the Gentex connector (after removing all of the wires from it), mounted the mirror using the stock windshield button, and covered up the wires using the stock cover. Ten minutes start to finish... great product!"

"This mirror, (only one purchased throughAutoAnything) had a biog/ugly 1/2" by 3" by 3" plug/connecter(?) about 12" from the mirror that made it impossible to run the wiring along the windshield underneath the weather stripping. I installed it in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler and I hid/velcroed the connecter under the windshield frame behind the visor. It doesn't look as clean or professional as the other installations I have had, but is OK. It functions perfectly (as do all the other mirrors) and actually, the compass on this one programmed easier than all the rest. It only took two 360 degree circles in each direction to program it.
Thank you, again, for a great product!!"

"The auto compass was very easy to program and installation was not hard at all. Only downside is that the mirror seems to be a bit small and visibilty could be better if the mirror is slightly larger."

"The OEM auto-diming mirror in my 97 Lincoln had stopped working. I checked with local auto glass shops and the dealer about replacements and found them expensive. Your Gentex is the OEM manufacturer and the new mirror is a little nicer. Intall time - five minutes, Your price - attractive. My satisfaction - Very High."

Not for the faint of heart

"This is a fine product: OEM quality with clear instructions, although generic with options depending on vehicle. Tearing into the trim on a new vehicle was necessary, however, to install the power lead. Removing the original mirror was also tricky because it was the hardest to remove, the internal spring loaded type. The Gentex uses a screw for easy removal. I ended up taking out the glove compartment in addition to what was recommended by the instructions in order to get at the breaker panel and nearby wiring and the panel was on the passenger's side not the driver's side as shown in the instructions. The clamp-on power lead went on easily enough to the lead for the suggested key activated auxiliary power jack but the wires were tightly bundled and tape had to be cut. Once the glove compartment was removed on this vehicle, it was possible to match color codes at the power jack and near the breaker panel to identify the proper wire. A solid ground point was also nearby. Once the power lead was hidden, luckily all the trim pieces snapped back in place with no broken plastic and the mirror and compass work fine. My advice? This is not a job for the faint of heart. The advertising says if you have put audio equipment in a vehicle, you can do this job. True enough, but every audio job I have ever done has also been a combination of the routine and the unexpected."

"I had this mirror mounted in my Toyota Prius, which did not come with a compass or in the case of my model, a self-dimming mirror. I also purchased the wire cover to make it look even more like a factory installation. I didn't try to install it myself because I'm not that handy. It looks original, works as advertised, and I'm totally pleased with the way it turned out."

"Works great- but have 2 suggestions.. 1-Should have adapters for different mirror mount buttons-removing old button is tricky to do without causing damage (I was lucky) 2- Needs adjustable sensitivity for auto dimming-sometimes at dusk, mirror doesn't dim quite enough. But overall, works quite well.(Cool, too!)"

"This is an excellent do it yourself add on option. Once I learned how easy it was to loosen the windshield surround trim to tuck the wire under it all went very quickly smoothly & easily.
Instructions that came with mirror also clear & easy to follow.
Thanks again,
Mike"

"I got spoilt with this mirror in my wife's '06 model year car, so I had to get the same for mine. Installation was a snap, and since I work in the automotive electrical industry, I had no problems in figuring out the wiring. Works very well. So now, we have 2 of these mirrors, one in my car, bought from AutoAnything, and the other one in my wife's car, which is an OEM (exact same mirror).
For a 1999-2002 series Honda Accords, use the mount recommended by AutoAnything, and choose a wire that has 12VDC on it when you turn on the ignition (thick green wire on the drivers side fuse box ??) to attach the positive spade connector for the mirror power supply."
