What's more, the K5 Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror comes with a self-calibrating digital display compass. You'll always know which direction you're headed thanks to the eight directional readouts (N, NW, W SW, S, SE, E and NE).

And, the Gentex Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror comes with 3-year / 36, 000 mile warranty.

"The rearview mirror in my '99 Grand Prix recently started leaking dimming fluid so I decided to replace it with a Gentex mirror since I'd heard such good things about them. This K5 mirror is a great replacement and was so easy to install. I pulled the existing wires out of the stock mirror connector and installed them into the Gentex connector (after removing all of the wires from it), mounted the mirror using the stock windshield button, and covered up the wires using the stock cover. Ten minutes start to finish... great product!"

"This mirror, (only one purchased throughAutoAnything) had a biog/ugly 1/2" by 3" by 3" plug/connecter(?) about 12" from the mirror that made it impossible to run the wiring along the windshield underneath the weather stripping. I installed it in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler and I hid/velcroed the connecter under the windshield frame behind the visor. It doesn't look as clean or professional as the other installations I have had, but is OK. It functions perfectly (as do all the other mirrors) and actually, the compass on this one programmed easier than all the rest. It only took two 360 degree circles in each direction to program it. Thank you, again, for a great product!!"

"The auto compass was very easy to program and installation was not hard at all. Only downside is that the mirror seems to be a bit small and visibilty could be better if the mirror is slightly larger."

"The OEM auto-diming mirror in my 97 Lincoln had stopped working. I checked with local auto glass shops and the dealer about replacements and found them expensive. Your Gentex is the OEM manufacturer and the new mirror is a little nicer. Intall time - five minutes, Your price - attractive. My satisfaction - Very High."

Not for the faint of heart

Posted on 09/20/2007 by Thomas W. P. - 2007 Nissan Frontier (Oak Ridge,TN)

"This is a fine product: OEM quality with clear instructions, although generic with options depending on vehicle. Tearing into the trim on a new vehicle was necessary, however, to install the power lead. Removing the original mirror was also tricky because it was the hardest to remove, the internal spring loaded type. The Gentex uses a screw for easy removal. I ended up taking out the glove compartment in addition to what was recommended by the instructions in order to get at the breaker panel and nearby wiring and the panel was on the passenger's side not the driver's side as shown in the instructions. The clamp-on power lead went on easily enough to the lead for the suggested key activated auxiliary power jack but the wires were tightly bundled and tape had to be cut. Once the glove compartment was removed on this vehicle, it was possible to match color codes at the power jack and near the breaker panel to identify the proper wire. A solid ground point was also nearby. Once the power lead was hidden, luckily all the trim pieces snapped back in place with no broken plastic and the mirror and compass work fine. My advice? This is not a job for the faint of heart. The advertising says if you have put audio equipment in a vehicle, you can do this job. True enough, but every audio job I have ever done has also been a combination of the routine and the unexpected."
