Gentex K5 Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror w/Compass Reviews

Gentex K5 install

Reviewed By Mark L (Homer Glen, IL) Reviewed for a 2008 Toyota RAV4 —11/19/2013 5:54 AM

The Gentex K5 replaced the lame OEM manual day/night mirror. The mount used the existing windshield based and fit properly. Like others mentioned, a switched positive and negative leads were found in the sunroof console bundle and the provided wiring was spliced-in. This made the installation less painful than stringing leads under the dash. The mirror did not require any compass calibration, the display was proper once powered up.

2004 Rav 4

Reviewed By Tom E (Portland, OR) Reviewed for a 2004 Toyota RAV4 —2/18/2006 9:14 PM

Missed having compass and temp as in prior vehicle. Checked with local car stereo installer for cost of installation. $65.00 worth of their headache not mine seemed reasonable. They did break the windshield, however. Not sure if negligence or window chip caused the problem. Zero deductible on Comprehensive insurance made it a moot point. Love the mirror. Auto dimming an appreciated bonus. "ICE" alert nice to have when temps low. "WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE" alert when temps are REALLY low would be a good enhancement. Will buy one for spouse's, car next birthday.

The CIPA Rear View Mirror as a direct change-out for my '06 Magn

Reviewed By Charles L (mauk, GA) —6/25/2015 8:33 PM

I was leary about changing the rearview mirror on my '06 Magnum R/T - the OEM one had mottled severely around the perimeter, leaving perhaps 50% of its ability to reflect what was behind me. Not knowing what I'd get, I bought the cheapest product AutoAnything had to offer. It was a direct replacement, even to the point where I could leave the original foundation on the windshield and tighten one Torq screwhead and the job was done. It was the easiest replacement I've ever installed. CLM
