"The side steps are both fictional and good looking, they were easy to install, about an hour, they also dressed up my wrangler. The only problem I had was the kit comes with 4 10mm bolts to bolt steps to underside of body, on my 2012 wrangler there are 4 8mm nuts already there so I needed to make a trip to the hardware store to buy (4) 8mm bolts to finish the install" —Thomas S from Bel Air, MD bought a Westin 4" Platinum Oval Step Bars for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, Sport, 2-door.
"It looks great on my 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. It's cheaper than the Mopar plastic side steps or much cheaper than the tubular one.
It feels sturdy enough when standing on it. I chose it because I'm not going to do serious rock crawling so don't want to add 100 lbs rock crawling rails (50lbs each side).
The 4" tubes just add about the same width as the wheel fenders, so they don't increase the width of the vechicle but give wider surface to step on.
Installation is straight forward except it didn't come with the bolts for 2012 JKU. It's shipped directly from Westin warehouse. The label on box said 2007-2012, but the manual inside said 2007-2010.
It came with 6 brackets and 10mm bolt sets for mounting the rails to the bottom. However, for 2012 JKU, those 6 holes were already threaded for 8mm (probably for the factory Rubicon rocker panels). So if you have a 2012 (or possibly 2011), you need to find another 6 sets of HIGH STRENGTH 8mm bolts, lock washers and fender washers. Beware that high strength bolts and washers might not be available at every hardware store especially in metric.
For the washers you can go with the 5/16, I used grade 8 lock washers, but couldn't find graded fender washers, so only used 2 regular. For the bolts, you must use 8mm. 5/16's thread will not fit. I got the grade 8.8 bolts (same as those 10mm cam with) from OSH, my Home Depot doesn't carry graded metric bolts.
I had contacted Westin by email to ask for additonal bolt sets, but they didn't repond at all.
AutoAnything did follow up with my feedback and forwarded my question to Westin again. Great service to AutoAnything :)" —Woon Shing C from Temple City, CA bought a Westin 4" Platinum Oval Step Bars for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, Sport, 4-door.
"Great price. Fast delivery. Well packaged. Nice solid, well fitted brackets, and design looks great. One critical problem, the main bracket bolts were NOT updated for my 2012 vehicle (as advertised). My new vehicle had 6 pre-threaded mounting holes (3 brackets per side). The kit only came with 2, Grade 8-8 8mmX35mm threaded mounting bolts along with 4 adapter plates/bolts I could not use. Had to go to the hardware store to buy 4 more bolts to complete the job. The brackets are strong, but 4" tubes are not very heavy gauge, so do not expect them to be a substitute for rock rails." —John B from Cottage Grove, MN bought a Steelcraft 4" Straight Oval Nerf Bars for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, 4-door.
"i ordered three step bars because I like the wider, heavier appearance. vs. a typical 3 or 4 inch tube step. They were shipped/delivered within a week and very well packaged to prevent any damage. Upon opening the box I realized these are not tubular oval steps but are running boards with curved edges made to look like oval tubes. They were very easy to install, and position on the vehicle (fore/aft, in/out from body) is very adjustable.
The pictures on the web site show two different end cap styles. You get both types, and can install which ever you like best. The smaller, blunt-end caps are very thin plastic and rather flimsy. The elongated, curved style are durable ABS- type plastic, but didn't look very good with my 2012 JKU.
if you purchase for Jeep JK, be aware that the metric bolts for mounting into pre-tapped holes in frame are mixed in with standard bolts for bracket assembly. I had ruined a couple bolts/ nuts before noticing this...match all bolts by number/pattern on bolt head first. Overall satisfied with appearance and quality. These steps mount almost level with bottom of jeep JK. Body. Vwish they were about 2" lower." —Robert W from Sanford, MI bought a Rampage 6" Streamline Step Bars for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler.
"I purchased these after reading reviews and comparing costs of different step bars. I am happy with them, and I have a couple of comments:
1. The instructions were good, but not great.
2. Steps are much higher up than expected.
Otherwise, pleased with purchase." —Shannon E from Brookhaven, MS bought a Rampage 6" Streamline Step Bars for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler.
