Description

Want to boost your ride's horsepower but don't want to crawl under the hood to do it? Hypertech's Power Programmer III makes it easy: Just plug this self-contained automotive tuning computer into the under-dash diagnostic plug, answer a series of yes/no questions, and the Hypertech Power Programmer III goes to work.

The Hypertech Power Programmer III instantly recognizes your vehicle's power train by reading your VIN for specific information on the engine, transmission and drivetrain. For some vehicles (see Detailed Info), you can even tell the Hypertech Power Programmer III to tune your vehicle for optimal performance with 87-octane or premium 93-octane gasoline. Plus, it'll adjust for aftermarket components such as non-stock tire sizes and rear-end gear ratios, too.

For many vehicles, the Power Programmer III unlocks 3 stages of performance tuning. Stage 1 gives you a modest boost and may improve fuel mileage. Or, dial up to stage 3 for heavy-duty towing and intense thrust. Lifetime Warrnaty.

Notes

  • Please note that the 8th digit of the VIN Code designates which engine the vehicle is equipped with. Please verify your vehicle's engine code for proper Hypertech unit.
  • Flex Fuel Vehicles: fueling with E85 is not recommended in conjunction with your Hypertech unit. Burning E85 reduces efficiency and power compared to using gas, which nullifies the effect of Hypertech's programming.

Great for my 2004 Chevy Avalanche.

Posted on 05/31/2006 by Michael H. - 2004 Chevy Avalanche (Rocklin,CA)

"I'm happy with the results. Installing it was very easy. I do wish that Hypertech offered some suggestions for programming based on what type of usage you are looking to use it for. I've only had one long road trip, but I averaged 17.9 mpg with about 1000 lbs loaded in the back cruising at about 75 mph. However, I also have an Airaid intake and Dynaflow exhaust. It also has great mid range passing power."

"fuel milage has improved slightly, could be the tire size correction , used 87 octane setting and the power seems the same as stock. Was also expecting the shifts to be firmer at the highest level. Sadisfactory rating at best."

Power programmer for 1998 Dodge 1500 4X4

Posted on 05/26/2006 by David B. (Prairieville,LA)

"This was an absolute waste of time and money. The only thing that it allowed you to change on my truck was rev limit, top speed, tire size and fuel octane. Now on a 4x4 why would you need to change your top speed? So, in closing, no matter if the power programmer was free, for my truck it was a waste. That is why I am returning it."

big hit of power and better fuel mileage too!

Posted on 05/25/2006 by Scott H. (Ridgefield,WA)

"I purchased the Hypertech Power Programmer for my Chevy Duramax and was a little skeptical about the claims of increased power and better fuel mileage. I was pleasantly surprised after installing the programming. It now has a very noticeable increase in power and best of all my mileage per gallon has increased. The truck is a blast to drive and I expect the unit will pay for itself in a very short while. I would definately recommend it to any diesel enthusiest."

Good power, but.....

Posted on 05/24/2006 by Chris Y. (Yuma,AZ)

"I bought this for a 2004 F-250 P/S. Based on the information I'd read, I expected to see an inprovement in gas mileage, considering the increased torque at lower RPM....didn't happen. BUT, the power is there when you get on the gas for any reason!!!!"

05' Durango 5.7 HEMI

Posted on 05/23/2006 by Mitch F. (Albuquerque,NM)

"I tried the Jet stage 2 performance chip and it was somewhat better then stock, however after a few weeks it failed, I had no throttle, Needless to say after Dodge charged me $147 to re-program the ECM, I returned the Jet chip. Superchips promise for a programmer is looking very bleak. I been using premium grade gas since I bought the Durango, and tried the lower grades a few times. The performance dropped real low with the lower grades. When I heard Hypertech came out with a programmer for the Durango HEMI, I ordered it, and I got to tell you, running on regular grade gas after the program was run, My Durango runs better then it did on premium grade, plus I gained about 2mpg, it's a lot smoother at idle, I'm 110% satisfied with the product. It's true that different applications uses certain features, I don't get the rev limiter option, or the transmission shift options, but that's OK, they may come out with an upgrade, but for now, I love having all that new found power and torque, especially in the 2000-3000 rpm curve, My son tells me to cool it with the G's,,"

1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Posted on 05/20/2006 by David M. (Mineral,WA)

"We just entered the RV world with a 25' Gulf Stream 5th wheel. The ProgrammerIII is the icing on the cake for our towing modifications. Concern over towing led to super shocks, replacement of trans/rear-end fluids, air-bag suspension. We towed home without Programmer, and travelled two days since programming. Wow, takes the hills and accelerates wonderfully. No more 40 mph hill climbs. Without a trailer, it jumps into action, like we have a different truck."

Immediate impact

Posted on 05/18/2006 by Che L. (Los Angeles,CA)

"After tuning my 96 Chevy Suburban, I felt an immediate impact. More torque, and tighter shifts. My only dissapointment is that all features aren't available such as tuning based on fuel octane, even though it says so on the box and in the manual and on Hypertech's website."

Lost Economy

Posted on 05/17/2006 by Joseph C. (Arcade,NY)

"I'm a litttle dis-appointed I purchased the programmer expecting to have 3 options that were advertised. Economy, performance and towing, economy was my goal. I went through all the steps in order and I have actually lost 1 mile per gallon from my average."

'02 Silverado Z71 5.3L

Posted on 05/16/2006 by Derek S. (Dripping Springs,TX)

"I installed the 93 octane program on my 02 chevy 5.3L truck(airaid cold air intake, and flowmaster dual exhaust), and have noticed a fair increase in throttle response. Open throttle horsepower seems to be where the power benefits are most noticed. I increased the shift firmness to 75% and, except for the fact that it jerks into 2nd gear a little too stiffly, the subsequent gear transitions are firm and effortless. I am happy to see already about a mile per gallon better in gas mileage, despite the fact that I have been hot-rodding it a little more than normal. This gas mileage increase translates to saving about two gallons of gas per fill-up. This means that even buying premium octane, I still actually save $6.10 each time I fill up. In about 2 years, at this rate, my power programmer III will have completely paid for itself. Although this is a long time to wait on a return on my investment, I will still be enjoying the performance benefits of it along the way. Overall I am about 85% pleased with this product. For the price, there is probably not another way to acheive these kinds of enhancements so inexpensively."

This exceeded my expectations

Posted on 05/12/2006 by Scott H. (Kirkland,WA)

"Very easy to install on my 2002 Dodge 5.9-360. The result was a noticible change in throttle response followed by better acceleration. Really notice the difference when accelerating from a dead stop and when RPM's reach about 4000-5000. Even better is the unbeatable price. Also have Flowmaster exhaust, K&N Intake, and Condensator."

Disapponited
