Description

Want to boost your ride's horsepower but don't want to crawl under the hood to do it? Hypertech's Power Programmer III makes it easy: Just plug this self-contained automotive tuning computer into the under-dash diagnostic plug, answer a series of yes/no questions, and the Hypertech Power Programmer III goes to work.

The Hypertech Power Programmer III instantly recognizes your vehicle's power train by reading your VIN for specific information on the engine, transmission and drivetrain. For some vehicles (see Detailed Info), you can even tell the Hypertech Power Programmer III to tune your vehicle for optimal performance with 87-octane or premium 93-octane gasoline. Plus, it'll adjust for aftermarket components such as non-stock tire sizes and rear-end gear ratios, too.

For many vehicles, the Power Programmer III unlocks 3 stages of performance tuning. Stage 1 gives you a modest boost and may improve fuel mileage. Or, dial up to stage 3 for heavy-duty towing and intense thrust. Lifetime Warrnaty.

Notes

  • Please note that the 8th digit of the VIN Code designates which engine the vehicle is equipped with. Please verify your vehicle's engine code for proper Hypertech unit.
  • Flex Fuel Vehicles: fueling with E85 is not recommended in conjunction with your Hypertech unit. Burning E85 reduces efficiency and power compared to using gas, which nullifies the effect of Hypertech's programming.

Mixed feelings

Posted on 12/06/2006 by Chris D. (Sidney,ME)

"I've got a 2000 Gmc sierra 1500 4.8 with a k&n cold air intake and super 40 deltaflow flowmaster dual exhaust. I'd have to rate this at a 6 out of 10 10 being best. You really see changes only when you hammer on it and go into passing gear. Over all you really need to use 93 oct. to be able to get the most out of it. Pretty much the differences are shift points which make it seem like more power. If you were to get this you should get it if you have a bigger motor. I've got mixed feelings. I'd say for the money i was expecting more of a change. Very easy to use though and DTC reader is a plus! I'm sure if you've got a bigger motor it would do more for you. Friend of mine has a 6.0L gmc n made a huge difference!"

2001 F-150 5.4

Posted on 11/22/2006 by Michael V. (Mcgill,NV)

"I have had the power programmer installed for 6 months now, power increase was negligible, mpg increase = 0, very easy to use, worked well in correcting my speedometer, and did change the transmission shift firmness. It does change the shift up rpm at full throttle but cannot change the short shift at part throttle."

DuraMax with Power Programmer III

Posted on 11/16/2006 by Mark K. - 2006 Chevy Corvette (San Antonio,TX)

"I noticed an immediate difference in the way it reved it. It climbed RPM quicker and actually seems a bit quieter. I haven't used it long enough to get a good feel for milage, but it seems to be a bit higher milage than before I programmed it. Power wise, it has performed as advertized and if it has increased my milage, it is more than worth the $282 I paid for it."

F250 Good and Bad

Posted on 11/16/2006 by Scot C. - 2000 Ford F250 (Laquey,MO)

"I purchased the hypertech and it had a full install in 17 minutes, total time for everything. The paperwork said it could take 15 min to read and another 20 min to write the computer. Ad says only 20 min. The programmer added power immediately and I had no problems. I do think that my on board MPG gauge is now incorrect since it reads 22.5 MPG and when I did the mileage to gallons during fillup I come up with 16 MPG. I am getting at least as many MPG as I was without it but more power. Might not get the power you will with other programmers but EGT is not an issue and doesn't fail emmisions. Only bad thing is I wanted better fuel mileage. I haven't used it on level I or II."

Powerstroke 7.3L Programmer

Posted on 11/15/2006 by Donnell R. (Rangely,CO)

"Found the hypertech programmer easy to use, was a little disapointed to find out 34" was the max tire height selectable. I have had no problems since re-programming my truck, but can't notice the power increase to be as much as claimed."

Not Bad

Posted on 11/15/2006 by John S. (Bastrop,LA)

"After install had alot of pinging with the octane setting on 87 have to run octane boost all the time, but the other settings work great with the install of the induction with I could tell the mid range diffrence and the throttle response is better also saw an increase in gas mileage by almost a 1 mpg, good product but could use a little more imporvment."

Great Buy....

Posted on 11/06/2006 by Bobby R. - 2006 Chevy Silverado (Arlington,TX)

"I was sceptical about this at first, but found it very easy to install. I programmed it for the 87 octane fuel and increased the shift firmness by 25%. I definitely noticed a slight increase in power and torque. As well as slightly better MPG. approximately 1.5 to 2 mpg. So, I am happy with this purchase and feel that it will pay for itself in about a year in the fuel savings alone. Keep in mind you need to drive nice to get the fuel savings. :)"

Posted on 10/31/2006 by Ronald Paul B. - 2000 GMC Yukon XL (Vail,AZ)

"have super chips progamer for my 2000 7.3l Ford diesel had to settle for hyper tech for my recently purched 2000 GMC Yukon XL. Programing was a pain compaiered to super chips and my ford. Performence gains were ok mainly in the low end but nothing to write home about. lost about 1 mpg. Will be towing My antique tractor this weekend so that will be the final test but I will not be expecting anyting great like what happened with my ford is it worth the money maybe"

Not Totally satisfied

Posted on 10/31/2006 by Jerry L. (Saint Augustine,FL)

"When I first programed the truck I got more power and sharper shifts. I raised the rev limiter 400 RPM's and lost over two miles per gallon. This past Friday I reproprammed the truck and got some of the gas mileage back. I am going to continue to monitor the gas mileage, maybe after a few tanks ( 3 or 4 ) I will get my gas mileage back. It is a little better now but not what it was. I additionally had installed a K&N air filter and was very happy with the increase in gas mileage."
