More performance, less fuel economy

"I was impressed with the performance gains. I'm running it on level 2, level 3 and my MBRP cat back free flowing exhaust causes an EGR DTC to be thrown. Not surprising. Known issue, and fix is not worth the effort and dealing with the dealer for warranty service. Fuel economy didn't get any better, but temperatures have gone down and my fuel goes south anyway with cooler temperatures."

"WOW!!!!!! After 320 miles of average driving, to the store, back roads at 55, a little stop and go, I'm getting 14.1-14.2 MPG. At 65 with the cruise set and a rolling start at 65 on the Interstate I'm getting 17.1 ( never got more than 15 before ). At 70 with a rolling start the MPG drops to 14.2, sweet spot is 65.
The truck has 81,000 miles on it and a K&N Filter, stock replacement and 4:10 gears in the rear ends (4 wheel drive. Wish I had bought this a long time ago......."

"I installed the HyperTech Power Programmer into my truck. I already have a cold air intake on my truck and have been using unleaded plus. I noticed an improvement in response and power. I did not test my truck. I have not noticed any fuel savings at this point. My truck was already hot. This made it hotter. It is worth the investment."

"Easy install. I only had option to tune performance and transmission with premium fuel though. Shifts better and has more power. Also added a AFE stage 2 air intake, and that worked well with the max energy programmer. Runs better and seems to be better on fuel when I behave, but cold weather warm up has made it hard to check for sure."

Ford F-250 V8 5.4L Gas Tuner Review

"I recently bought this tuner, despite my wife balking at me for a day or two, but I do feel it was a good buy. The shipping was fast and the installation was a little dicey to do. First, I had to plug a wall adapter to the USB to get power (the instructions are a little vague) then hook up the tuner with the ECU. The instructions are very clear not to have an extra drain on the battery except the tuner when performing the install. After everything it took about 5 minutes and it was installed. I did notice a change especially with where the transmission shifts. Rarely now do I see the tach go much over 2,000 rpm. So that has me believing this little gadget works despite if I stomp on the accelerator. Gas mileage is another story, Here is Ohio we have taken a little dip in prices(2.74 Oct "08") and the wife has me filling up more often, so my test are not on an empty tank necessarily. However, the needle is not dropping like a rock like I noticed when I first bought the truck. I would put it around a 2mpg gain on a good day. I also bought this to read the codes to let me know what is going on with check engine lights down the road. I plan on keeping me truck a few years. Finally, I have no real evidence to prove the hp gains, but living on a 2,500 acre farm pulling equipment etc I was willing to take the plunge and purchase the tuner. Bottom line is you have the money to spend buy it. If you have a diesel there are tuners and programmers galore, but if you have a gas truck, they become a littler harder to find and everything I read on a diesel was positive and figured the same could to apply to my gas truck and so far I think it has. You can always return the ECU to stock and go without it or return the product. Ryan Rhoades Ohio"

"After installation, I have noticed a smoother shift from my auto transmission. Approximately 2 MPG better gas milage and more power than before. To me, those are the improvements I was seeking when I purchased the unit. The only issue I have with the instructions, was what mode am I in. It was not explained in the instructions. I chose #2 as it was in the middle of the three settings. Also, it doesn't explain what #1, #2 or #3 is? Did I miss reading something? Otherwise, it appaears to be a good investment. Sincerely, S."

"took a few months to evaluate before writing a review. as far as power goes i was very satisfied-- although i was looking for milage improvement over power. didn't seem to make any milage difference. most of my trips are 80-120 miles highway... 65-75 mph. didn't seem to matter which setting i was on i averaged 15.9--16.4. when on setting #3 my around town driving was lower.. i average 16.3 mpg with no controller installed. i guess i threw away $300 + before and i'll do it again. I would try another controller Thanks Dave."

"I was looking for a while for a way to get some MPG + in my 01 gas Excursion. I was hoping for a little more out of this one. You have to keep it on the premium fuel option. my truck read 11.1 MPG for a year straight. I put this in reset the overhead and hit the highway. it maintained 14.6-15 MPG for the trip. I was happy-- off highway it went down in the 13's. The power increase isnt drastic. but there is some. It should pay for itself in fuel."

"Purchased the Hypertech Programmer over a month and a half ago. I have only used the first setting, since I was looking for an increase in gas mileage. First time I started the truck I could tell the engine was running smoother at idle. Amazed at home smooth it accelerates now. During the week I use the truck back and forth to work (15 miles one way/mpg increase 3 mpg) Weekends I drive 250 miles to my cabin ~ drive between 80~85 mph. Saw an increase of 4 mpg!! [540 miles last weekend = 19.2 mpg @82 mph] Should have bought this darn thing when I first bought my truck!! AWESOME!!!

"We use our truck primarily to pull a horse trailer. With the trailer full (3) horsed it weighs about 11,000 lbs. Before I installed the programmer I was a little disapointed in the performance of our truck. After I installed it, we can hardly even tell the trailer is behind us. I have it set on a level 2. Not sure about the gas mileage yet."

"I purchased this product mainly to gain power on my truck for towing and some fun on the highway. This program installed in 10 minutes on my truck and the gains were noticeable. I did not gain much low end torque, although at higher speeds this was amazing and horsepower gains have been noticed at higher rpm. I also like the fact that I could change my shift points, but I do not recommend changing the shift firmness if you have over 100k on the transmission like I do. I noticed my transmission acted up and I had to lay off a little. As far as gas mileage, it did not increase or diminish. I started out with 345 miles on a 24.5 gallon tank and now I get between 335-350 miles on a tank. Overall I would give this product a high rating for performance and ease of use, although gas mileage increases were not apparent."

"Vehicle: Nissan Titan; very happy with improved preformance.
Pros
-Bang for buck. Better performance “feel” over CAI and exhaust combo alone
-Fifth gear throttle response
-Upgradeable via internet
-Trouble free install
Cons
-No shift point/ firmness adjustments. I assume it can’t be done or hypertech would have added the options.
-Fan temp adjustments. Probably b/c, electric fan is secondary to the main clutch fan."
