great add on for the truck, i noticed a difference in power right away still trying to get used to the superchip and everything it can do, the only problem i have found so far is even with adjusting my tire size my odometer is still off i think because of my lift kit, also i can't even feel it shift gears now i am truely pleased.

I really like this thing. I've never used any kind of programmer before. It was easy to install an put a noticeable amount of umf into my 4.2L V6. Changing shift points and press is nice as well. I have it set to the performance tune right now and have seen significant increases in power and acceleration with the mpg remaining the same. On the 87 octane setting I saw slight power increase with 1-2 mpg increase. I have yet to tune it to the fuel saver mode due to it being too much fun

This was my first time ever using a chip and I am really impressed. The truck has obvious reaction changes to the different settings used. Adds a lot more power than I expected as well. Overall, it was definitely worth it.

Programmed my 2003 Lincoln Navigator 5.4 liter engine after upgrading to a standard K&N filter (replaced the stock filter only), mileage went up 1.8 mpg after programming. Then used the Cortex Super on my 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty 6.4 liter diesel (you are allowed 2 vehicles for programming). Mileage went up over 2 mpg on the diesel. Unit was easy to update, easy to use. Pricey but worth it, will pay for itself in less than a year, especially with diesel at $4 plus per gallon.

Hi, According to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty of your vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part was the cause or contributed to the failure of the vehicle (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)). It’s always best to work with a performance-oriented dealership, but no matter who you choose, you’re protected by the law.

I have an 06 GMC Duramax, that is still running great, but I am wanting to get a little better fuel economy out of the ole girl and I was thinking of the Cortex as my programmer. As I was looking at the additional information, I notcied that more than half of the options are not provided for by the Cortex. My question would be is the cortex the best option for my vehicle or are there some better options out there. I mostly drive on highway/surface roads, with some towing and off-roading ( I guy just has to go get dirty every once in a while).

Does the FlashPaq & the Cortex have an 87 Octane Tune for a 2003 Sliverado 4.8L? I'm trying to decide which one to get, and which would be better for my truck.
Answered by Nathan S. — Jul 13, 2012 12:35 PM
Both programmers have an 87 octane tune if your truck is designed to use that octane rating from the factory. The main difference between the two is that with the Cortex, you can use the programmer with a second vehicle by paying an addition charge through Superchips.

You say the Cortex also reads and clears diagnostic codes, what do you mean by that?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Jun 29, 2012 8:25 AM
When your vehicle shows the check engine light, the onboard computer has a code for whatever the problem is. TheCortex programmer will show you the code so you can fix the problem, and then it’ll clear the code (saving you an expensive trip to the dealership). And, if the repair is beyond your scope of ability, at least you know what the problem is before you head to the mechanic.

What’s the difference between a programmer and a chip?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Jun 28, 2012 10:53 AM
Basically, chips plug right into your vehicle’s PCM and stay there, constantly working. There is usually no choice between tunes, diagnostics or monitor display. Though some do have several tunes, they require wiring and a switch to be installed as well. A programmer is handheld or dash-mounted device that connects to your PCM via the OBDII port. Programmers give you a greater range of tuning, diagnostics and monitoring capabilities. They’re more user friendly, and much easier to uninstall.

Hi, I was thinking to get this chip, it's my #1 choice. How well would it work with the 08 Chevy cobalt LT? I have K&N CAI and Magnaflow Exhaust changed so far on it. And wanted to get a very good programmer that would get the best results. Thanks.
Answered by Nathan S. — May 01, 2012 4:50 PM
It will provide proven performance with the option of adding a second vehicle to the programmer by paying a small fee through Superchips directly.

with the cortex 3950 can you see your gas mileage while drving?
Answered by Nathan S. — Apr 24, 2012 5:00 PM 2011 Ford F-150
The Cortex acts as a flash programmer. What this means is that you program the vehicle by hooking the programmer to the OBDII port under the steering column to interface with your vehicles computer and add new software. Once the Cortex replaces your factory tune, you unplug the unit.

I was wondering what the average increase in MPG after installation is. I have an 06 Tahoe with the 5.3, and I'm considering on buying the Cortex Programmer. I understand most reviews are about the increase in power, but no one says if it increased the MPG as well.

1-2 mpg increase is common depending on you driving style.

I don't understand why manufactures don't offer a product like the "Superchips Cortex Programmer" as an option when shopping for their new vehicle? I would have gladly chosen this over the over priced and useless paint and fabric protection plan dealers push on their potential buyers.
Answered by Andrew B. — Dec 19, 2011 12:10 AM
So true. I think this is a direction that they may want to look at in the future. Not really sure why they aren't trying to put their own custom tunes together for vehicle owners to test out. It would really let us get the most out of our newly purchased vehicles! Who knows, they'll probably charge an arm and a leg for it if they do :) For now, I'd rather go for a Superchips tuner.
