Currently using the regular gas tune running 89 octane. Noticed more power than running stock with 89 octane. Moving acceleration increased quite a bit but I haven't noticed anything off the line but my truck was already peppy in 1st w/3.73 gears. Highway above 55mph i have noticed roughly 5mpg better mileage and city driving 45mph and under its about the same or worse mpg probably because its kicking in more fuel. Currently watching intake temp vs outside to see if a CAI is colder!

I was pretty skeptical when buying this Bully Dog programmer however after I got it installed I found that I could not keep my foot out of the pedal. This has definitely unleashed the beast in my 2006 Nissan Titan! I also have a dual cat back exhaust system a K&N cold air intake and a power aid throttlebody. All of those things have definitely helped with the bully dog programmer. The amount of power you will gain off of this programmer is amazing. Thanks Bully Dog

Tried out the drive coach and was able to increase my gas millage from 8 to 12 in city. I am yet to try the long drive, but im sure I will be pleased.

Actually I had the cold air intake and this chip installed at the same time. According to advertising, I should be getting about 4 gallon better MPG and 35-45 hp increase with both systems installed. I have had maybe a slight increase in MPG and a noticable but undetermined increase in HP. While it is impossible to differenciate between the performance effect of the intake and the chip, I suspect the two systems compliment each other. I am satisfied with the purchases and would do it again.

Hi, You can take the tuner off with no ill effects. Also, according to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty of your vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part was the cause or contributed to the failure of the vehicle (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)). It’s always best to work with a performance-oriented dealership, but no matter who you choose, you’re protected by the law.

    gas vs diesel

Does this work as well on GASOLINE ENGINES (vs diesel engines)? If so, any difference in performance spec's?

    Answers (1)

    Staff Answer

    Answered by Nathan S. — Apr 04, 2013 9:05 AM

Hi David, A gasoline engine will never make the ridiculous power gains that a diesel will with a tuner for one reason. They use a completely different operating principal: Gasoline engines add power through the introduction of more air and fuel in a 14.7:1 ratio. A tuner optimizes ignition timing and injector timing to build a bit more power (up to 40 hp in some turbocharged direct injection motors and an average increase of 15 hp for everything else). Diesels add power by dumping massive amounts of fuel and relying on compression to light the extremely rich air/fuel mix and commonly will see increases of 100+ hp with a tuner. Simply put, a tuner can't add air to an engine, but it sure can add fuel to one.

I was all set to order the Bully Dog Triple Dog GT Tuner but I was looking over the instruction PDF and noticed a warning regarding other electronic performance devices already installed. I am currently running a cold air intake with an A'PEXi S-AFC II SUPER AIRFLOW CONVERTER. It controls air/ fuel ratios over set RPM points. Also monitors throttle, rpm, knock, air/fuel correction and other fun things. The AFC is hard wired to specific points and not to the ODBII So the million dollar question (or 380) is will these two devices work hand in hand or is it one or the other?

Hi Laura, You don't wan't to mix tuning devices. OBD II or not, if the AFC is modifying spark and injector function, which is essentially the same thing the Bully Dog would do. It's one or the other for sure.

    Answered by Nathan S. — Feb 20, 2013 9:10 AM

Hi, The downside to performance parts is that while they make the engine run more efficiently and save fuel while cruising, they also cause more fuel to be used when you get on the gas because the airflow potential is higher. More air entering the engine = more fuel needs to be added to maintain an ideal air/fuel ratio. A tuner will optimize the fuel mapping for either economy or performance, so you can increase MPGs with it, as long as you stay off of the throttle. According to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty of your vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part was the cause or contributed to the failure of the vehicle (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)). Don't worry, you are protected. According to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty of your vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part was the cause or contributed to the failure of the vehicle The Bully Dog programmer works great on diesel trucks. It's a huge improvement.

Wondering if anyone out there has used one of the Bully Dog programers on their 2010 Duramax and if so how did it improve the mileage? I had one on my 2004 LLY Duramax set at level 2 (75 HP) and it was awesome! Went from 15 mpg to 21 mpg and 400 HP overall in Level 2 setting and it would keep up with my 90 Corvette no problem, at least until the vette top ended it haaaaaaaaaa! Really wanting to program the 2010 and see if the performance and mileage can live up to what the 2004 LLY motor did! Mike P.

Hello Skylar. The aftermarket electrical accessories referred to here are the plug-in or removable kind. If you have hard-wired aftermarket parts, treat them as you would factory installations. Otherwise, just unplug or disconnect your accessories, and then return them once you are tuned up. Thank you for your question.

Hello Joseph. Of course! The tuner is a programmer so it doesn't really need install time. It is plug & play. It literally takes only 10 minutes, and we will send all the necessary instructions and technical support. The Bully Dog tuner connects to the OBDII port in 1 minute, it is a port located underneath the steering wheel, the intake installs in 10 minutes. Hope that helps.

Stock tune is the factory or OEM settings that your vehicle’s manufacture loaded into its computer. It’s important to set it back to stock when taking your vehicle to the dealer for servicing or when getting a smog check.
