BelTronics RX65 radar detector

Posted on 07/23/2006 by Frank B. (Irvine,CA)

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful.

"In June I got a ticket flying low and fast on I-5 near highway 99. $250 for the ticket, $40 to request traffic school, and $20 and 8 hours for the actual class, I bought the BelTronics RX65 radar detector. All I can say is WOW! and thank you BelTronics. Last week driving to Fresno on business I had eight positive hits on the trip up, five where Ka and three were laser. In fact, if I had not had the RX65 I would have gotten another ticket in almost the same place. Going through Bakersfield the voice response said laser so I hit the brakes hard and started looking. Up ahead on an overpass sat an officer with his gun pointed at the oncoming traffic. I gave him a little wave when I passed under the overpass. I really like the three ways the RX65 lets you know you are being painted; tone, spelled out (K, Ka, X, Laser) on the screen, and voice response. I especially like the voice response so I don’t have to take my eyes off the road, particularly when I am flying at 90+. Great investment and it paid for itself in one trip! FDB"

"Well in my area, X is the popular band, but I also have had a little Ka and POP. Its given me plenty of warning on all except the pop, but the fact that it picked it up saved me. This is wonderful and I got it for highway driving, which I will be doing alot of in the fall."

OK, but.....

Posted on 03/14/2006 by James S. (Memphis,TN)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.

"So far, with both intown and freeway use, the unit has done as advertised and warned me twice of radar. I seem to pick up kband readings at the same location daily, so the panic factor has gone. Tennessee now has the new radar, and I learned yesterday how effective it is. I passed within 8 feet of a police officer, standing in median, and pointing a gun at oncoming cars. My detector was on auto and it never beeped once. Not before I got to him, or after I passed him, and I would assume that the reflection back from on-coming cars would have triggered my detector as I approached. That was sobering experience."

Great Detector

Posted on 02/07/2006 by Stan W. (Soulsbyville,CA)

"I have had the detector for a few weeks now and it already saved me once. The early detection is one of the best I have seen and used. The only thing is I wish I knew what agency if any are still using the X-band. I just would rather shut it off for good if I knew I didn't need it."

Dream Detector!

Posted on 01/07/2006 by Scott S. (Camden,NY)

"The BelTronics RX65 Pro is the detector to beat and the sensitivity is outstanding. While returning from a skiing trip, my RX65 sounded a Ka Band alert. I almost dismissed it as falsing until I found the NY State Trooper hiding at a rest stop a half mile away. This isn't a big deal until you realize his radar gun was "painting" cars coming from the opposite direction! If you are looking for a detector with unbelievable sensitivity and programmable features like a spectrum analyzer tech function, this is the box for you."

"I have had several other brands of detectors throughout the years, but none have ever been this accurate. The extra cost for a outstanding performance is well worth the investment. This detector is top notch, easy to use and will give you the heads up warnings to save you time and money. THE BEST BY FAR!!!!!!"

Tops in Sensitivity

Posted on 12/15/2005 by Rex T. (Lavergne`,TN)

"This Dectector is the best I've owned. The technology has improved alot from 5 years ago. The only disadvantage is that it picks up so much pollution from other detectors and Store automatic doors etc... that it "falses" alot. I expect this is true of all high end detectors though. As I get used to it, I will hopefully be able to better distinguish the alerts."

BT RX65

Posted on 11/28/2005 by Jack H. (Glendora,CA)

"Tested against a K-40 RD850 (owned for a year), The RX65 blew it away! in the X,K,Ka detection department, every time the RX65 would alert first. As much as 5 to 10 seconds later the K-40 would go off. When the RX65 was used in the Tech mode, it gave me so much more information. By watching the RX65 I could tell which micro wave frequencies were Cop radars and which were K band door openers (99 cent stores) or vehicle proximity alarms. Almost all city X bands alerts are door openers here in So Cal, most near the same X band frequency. California CHP appears to be using Ka radars, so far all are on the same channel. Last week I took a Motorcycle trip from Sacramento to LA via Hwy. 1, every time a Ka popped up, the CHP was within a 1/4 mile or more. Very handy! The voice option is very cool and useful (read short learning curve). Tech mode is the cat’s meow!! Jack in So Cal"

False alarms, but great otherwise

Posted on 10/05/2005 by Ronny L. (Salisbury,MD)

"I receive way too many K band alert, even when I am out in the country. It goes off and then stops and I can see nothing any where. But it does great when I am in laser or radar alert and being tracked."

radar

Posted on 09/24/2005 by Pamela B. (Vernon,TX)

"the rader was effective it was.. yet the only thing i say it lacks is it wont detect all the cops it will most but not all. it has saved me some money so it is a good one indeed. it weighs alot so it often falls from my windsheild. i think its a little over priced as well."

A good radar detector that could be better

Posted on 08/30/2005 by Michel F. (Round Rock,TX)

"I bought this radar about 3 weeks ago. I've only done commuting with it. Sensitivity is very good, sometimes too good, so I have to use the city mode. To improve: the radar sounds are terrible and I wish they would be customizable."

Excellent detection

Posted on 08/27/2005 by Herbert T. (Jupiter,FL)

"was surprised at the range that radar signals have been detected. The Ka radars are detected loud and clear with plenty of distance before evn coming upon the police car and its radar in order to slow down...and even wave. Overall; excellent detection."

cable too short

Posted on 08/27/2005 by William W. (Cooper City,FL)

"the connecting cable is too short for me. I place the unit in the dashboard to my left instead of the center. due to its shortness it is constantly tilting sideways or back. i do notuse the mounting bracket because when i park i usually put it away from sight to avoid break ins. otherwise its a good product."

The BEST!

Posted on 08/26/2005 by Gary B. (Sugar Land,TX)

"The BelTronics RX65 is by far the best of any Bel or competing brands I have purchased. Falsing is virtually eliminated but at no expense to sensitivity to "true" signals. I LIKE it!"
