"Lives up to all the reviews! I say this because I really haven't heard any negative feedback. It's easy to use, looks great, and the range is really great too.
One thing I was really happy about was the secure mounting of the suction cups while the unit stays level. I ordered my direct wire to give it the clean custom look for it's final touch!"

"The trip was approximately 900 miles each way and did not get any tickets. Radar was most pronounced in the Florida panhandle and the Escort did much to eliminate the stress of constantly monitoring the speedometer."

"I havent extensivlely used it yet, but the Passport 8500 seems to be a very good detector.
The Ka band seems to be very popular though and a lot of the warnings in Ka are privately generated. That might cause you to put down your guard and not react fast enough to legitimate warnings - probably not a very easy way around this, since some law enforcement might use Ka as well."

"Used the detector for the first time this weekend, from Houston to our ranch in west Texas. I would have been stopped a minimum of four times for sure, if I did not have the Escort. I never believed in radar detectors, but to sound like an infomercial 'I'm a believer'..... Worth every penny."

"Put is this way, this Passport 8500 X50 has saved me money from fines twice already. By saving me from this, the Escort has paid for itself off already.

"I just completed a 1500 mile trip using this unit and after working part way throught he learning curve was happy with the unit. I have only used the highway setting based on a friend's input. This unit enabled me to shorten the trip by a bit."

"great value. Picks up on police cars almost every time. wich is pretty amazing considering where i live, I live in a town with a population of about 5000 and our local police force has aproximatly 45 cars! however it is slow to pick up on X-band signals. still fact remains this product is amazing!"

"I bought a Solo S3 and was really disappointed with its performance. Autoanything was gracious enough to allow me to return it and I bought the 8500 X50 and it is outstanding. I get a warning when INSTANT ON is being used ahead of me in time to react. I did not with the S3. The X50 is great and so is Autoanything."

"An excellent detector. I had the original Passport for many years (loved it). I upgraded to a Valentine One for one vehicle, but chose to go with the Passport 8500 for the other vehicle. Much more compact than the V1, cheaper & is just as accurate and selective...good buy for an outstanding detector."

"Have used the unit for a little over 700 miles - Compared to my beat up old Cobra, this unit's range is awesome. I picked up Ka band well over two miles away. My old unit would not start to alarm until 3/4 mile away. I still get some false sensing from alarm systems in AUTO mode, but not steady. The range of menu options is very good. I especially like the cord with the mute button at the plug head along with the extra alarm light. The unit is rather large and heavy - the suction cups seem to have difficulty holding in very cold (below 15 degree) weather. Overall, very impressed so far!"

"No major radar detections events yet to report, but very impressive functional & ergonomic features. Seems to draw high "off" current, as it drained my 05 Jeep GC battery when indvertantly left plugged in but off for a week parked."
