racket Adapters for Suco Roof Rack

Posted on 09/24/2006 by Theron G. - 2000 Jeep Cherokee (Lake Havasu City,AZ)

"Found the Roof Rack very easy to put together and well constructed. The only challange I had was getting a 1/2 inch wrench on the nuts used to adjust the brackets that connected the roof rack to the factory roof rails on my jeep cherokee."

Disappointed, to say the least

Posted on 08/10/2006 by Jason S. - 2002 Honda CRV (Pelham,NY)

"I am disappointed with my recent purchase of the Surco Safari Roof Rack and mounting hardware. The mounting hardware will not work with my vehicle, though the product description said it would. The mounting hardware package was incomplete, lacking a special wrench needed to tighten the brackets. The roof rack was also missing some necessary hardware; I replaced the hardware myself because it would have taken too long for the replacement pieces to be sent. I am a long time internet shopper and this is probably the worst purchase I have ever made over the internet. Add to all that the fact that the instructions are poorly written and poorly illustrated and you have an absolute nightmare of a shopping experience. I will never buy anything from autoanything or Surco again"

Easy to install, Easy to love!

Posted on 08/03/2006 by Allen F. - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Hinesville,GA)

"I must say that I was extremely impressed with both the quality and simplicity of its design. It looks great atop my Jeep. The custom surco adapters made Surco Safari rack easy to install on my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. What's more, you can remove the rack anytime you like by simply removing the 4 locking screws. There is no better rack for this price anywhere. What's not to love?"

Surco Safari Roof Rack

Posted on 07/15/2006 by Gerald L K. - 1974 Volkswagen Thing (Huntington Beach,CA)

"Rack was delivered fast and was easy to put together. The quality of the aluminum rack is just what I was looking for so I did not have to be concerned with rust in the future. I thought it was a good value for the money spent when compared to other racks I was looking at."

Not so Safari !!

Posted on 06/23/2006 by Nicholas P. R. - 1993 Chevy Suburban Pre-2000 (Brookline,MA)

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"I purchase the (50"x84") Surco Safari Rack for my 1993 Chevrolet Suburban so that I could travel with more items. To begin with... the directions are a little to general, not specific to the various size racks... secondly, a packaged clamp came with one bolt missing and another with a defect such that the Alan Wrench hole was not visible. So After that was said and done I put it on the roof, and then put 5 coolers, a spare tire, 4 gas tanks, and a couple of folding chairs on the rack. That is a lot of bulk but not really that heavy, well the "Safari Rack" that cost me $500 mind you, was bowing to within an inch of the roof. I had to force a 1"x4" down the center of the roof in order to support the rack. I'm a little disappointed in the strength of the rack and subframe. Especially for $500!"

Over all - great product, falls short in some areas

Posted on 06/19/2006 by Tim C. - 1999 Ford Expedition (York,ME)

"The rack was easy to install - the instructions that came with were not great at all. Overall I am quite happy with it. There is only once accessory that I think is needed – a bungee cargo net made specifically for the rack. If a bungee net and better instructions were included this item would get full marks. But for the money spent on this unit I had high expectations for this product."

Surco Sarafi Roof Rack on 4X4 Surburban

Posted on 05/08/2006 by Greg L. (Austin,TX)

"Like a number of otherreviewers I found the enclosed instructions to be nore basic than I would have preferred. Also, the instructions were actually for a smaller rack and left some confusion about the larger Suburban sized rack I purchased. Austo Anything, however, provided me with a phone number of a gentleman at Surco who was very kind and helpful and I got the thing assembled and installed in a few hours. All in all I am happy with it, but I think that Surco's written instuctions could be done a good deal better."

Love these racks

Posted on 04/25/2006 by Jason F. - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Columbus,OH)

"This is the second rack I have purchased for my Jeeps. I love the rack, and its multiple functions. The rack for my 02 Grand Cherokee went on very easily. I couldn't be happier with the product. The separate brackets needed to mount the rack look just like an OEM product, and fit in nicely with the look of my Jeep."

My Surco roof rack experience for my 04' H2

Posted on 04/17/2006 by Theron J. - 2004 Hummer H2 (Longmont,CO)

"The only real disappointment was their selection of hardware and lack of instructions. I would have liked to seen some sort of knob system to attach the basket to the roof track. Since adding this to my 2004 H2 I cannot get this into my garage so the knob system would be great for easy removal. I tried using the supplied Phillips head screws and trying to hold the threaded plate was a pain because the screws were to short. I ended up getting a bunch of socket head cap screws about 3/8" longer then what was supplied. I also was disappointed with the instructions that came with the system. It only had 3 pictures on it and very limited instruction both on one page. I am a mechanical engineer so for this to be lacking for me was a lot. One thing I would recommend would be to install the cross bars on the car first then once the basket was assembled install that and move the cross bars accordingly then attach the basket. I would also recommend that you put this together on a pair of saw horses to save your back, there are a lot of screws. I also ordered the light attachment brackets and did not see any where in the description that they came in pairs so I ordered 2 extra boxes. The brackets where pretty straight forward to install. I ordered the 100” x 65” basket as well as the ladder and found out once I tried to open my rear hatch the ladder hit the basket so I had to loosen all the mounting screws and move the basket forward. I am taking a trip to Canada this summer and during our drive I will encounter over 200 miles of poorly maintained dirt road that is usually pretty rough so I will let you know how the rack handled the drive."

not the best

Posted on 03/11/2006 by John F. (Pine Mountain Club,CA)

"The rack does not fit the top of the Sienna van and the claspes do not hold to the luggage rack as well as a more thought thru piece might be. The cross bars are too short and the finishing caps will not go on at all unless you cut a portion of them off . and the smaller cross hatch metal pieces vibrate in the wind traveling over them at speeds over 35 mph . The tire portion does work and seems to hold in place securely . Would like to hear from you regarding the caps and what to do with replacing the cross bars to a longer piece so caps go on and additional clamps or sraps or ties to keep the cross pieces from vibrating. john ford"
