Description

If Genghis Khan could have his pick of cargo baskets to mount on his trusty steed, he wouldn’t pass up the Yakima MegaWarrior. This colossal cargo carrier is the biggest and best that Yakima makes, delivering enough space to hold up to 4 bikes, 3 kayaks and a bike, or even a kayak and a mid-sized catapult.

Whether you’re storming over rugged badlands or Blitzkrieg-bopping around on a road trip, the Yakima MegaWarrior Cargo Basket provides the sturdiest platform for holding your extra gear. Its no-nonsense construction starts with powerful steel ribs that are welded together. Then, every square inch is weather-treated, spitting in the eye of Mother Nature’s fury.

Up-armoring your ride with the Yakima MegaWarrior Cargo Basket is simple. The universal attachment system sinks its claws into round, square or factory crossbars. And, the included wind fairing swats away most wind whistle. You can also upgrade your MegaWarrior with an extension, a cargo net, and a number of brackets for enhanced versatility. Lifetime Warranty.

The rack is the perfect size for the roof of this vehicle with the extension. Still fits without, but with the extension it really fills the top nicely, and the additional space is great also. At speeds up to about 60-65, I have not noticed any additional noise. Now when I get to around 70, I do hear a deep basey sound. This is all with nothing up top, so it could change with gear overhead. The design & quality is top notch. Assembly was a breeze with included instructions. I like to go camping, and sometimes I just sleep in the back of my Jeep Commander. I needed some additional space to haul & store gear/equipment. Granted, I can pile a bunch of stuff inside the Jeep, but after setting up camp (air mattress in the back), I don't have room inside. I used to throw stuff under the Jeep, but now I can toss it on top. Items that I really don't want inside can ride up on top also. I have yet to mount a kayak or two on top, but we will see how that goes in the future as most of the waters right now are frozen.

I had been wanting this for a while on my 2003 Ford Expedition and when a good sale came up I purchased it with the extension and bungie net thing. Assembly and installation was very easy. I might upgrade my flimsy factory cross bars at some point but they seem to hold the basket fine. There is some wind noise at speeds approaching highway speeds but it seems it gets less as you go a bit faster. The front wind fairing might rattle on you so you will probably have to use something like velcro to hold it in place. I have not got a chance to actually use the basket yet but I got so that when I need it I am ready. With three kids, two adults, a large double stroller and other stuff, this should come in pretty handy.

I received the rack in a few days and had it installed on my 2008 Jeep Patriot in less than an hour. I just went camping this past weekend and was able to fit five people and five people's worth of camping gear, fire wood, and food all in one vehicle thanks to the spacious and sturdy Yakima MegaWarrior. I also got the light mounts and installed some Kc Daylighters for some added light on the dirt mountain roads at night. You won't be disappointed with this product.

This rack is a great addition to your vehicle for cargo space and appearance. When I first considered this basket, I was concerned that it would be too big for my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially since there was no review from someone who owned a Jeep. This basket is actually 48" wide, 52" long, and 6.5" height and fits my Jeep PERFECT. I could actually use the Yakima Megawarrior extension. Very easy to install, only took about 30 minutes. I chose this basket over Thule because of the optional accessories of a locking bracket (to prevent theft) and light brackets for aux fog lights. Looks great with my KC long range lights. If you are worried about someone ripping off your basket, I'd get the locking brackets. This basket does come with a wind fairing, but be aware that it still causes some lag. I've lost about 1-2 mpg, although it is not very noisy. The mounting brackets are "universal" and will fit square, round and for Jeep owners, the type of factory crossbars that are wide and thin. Actually, the brackets seemed to fit my factory crossbars better than it would for square ones. So Jeep Grand Cherokee owners, rest at ease, this basket is perfect for you!

Great rack, easy to install... but even thought it said it would work on my truck (Ford Excursion) with the existing roof rack rail system, it didn't. So I had to spend another $400 or so for the yakima control towers, cross bars, landing pads, etc. Happy to have it on the truck but the total investment was quite a bit more than I was planning to spend.
