Used this product for 1, 1300 mile trip from St. Louis to El Paso, TX via San Antonio, TX which took 5 days during the first week of Oct. 2010. Encountered no rain and got up to speeds of 70 M.P.H. Had the product in a metal frame basket which kept it off the roof of the SUV. Needed the basket because the product was too long to attached to the SUV cross bars. Probably better that way than directly on the roof. No damage at all to the product and is in new condition except for the bug stains. Kept all hard edges away from corners and no hard edges at the top of the load. Padded the insided of the bottom with blankets because of the metal grid of the basket. Top load didn't affect handling.

I decided to purchase the Sherpa Bag after reading all the reviews on all the other rooftop carriers. This is a quality made, well constructed, durable and water proof carrier that holds tons of stuff. It was easy to attach to my Forester and held steady for over 1500 miles of driving including two days of torrential downpours. Everything stayed dry. It held 4 sleeping bags, two tents, one screen room, 4 pillows, two cots, and a bagful of beach towels. I put one of those rubber mesh things that you use to keep rugs from slipping on the roof of my car before putting the Sherpa Bag on top of the car. Great product.

This a good product - I bought the 10' model and it fit on my Escape as advertised. Packed it up with several boxes and drove 140 miles in high winds and all was safe/secure - one stop to check/tighten and no problems. Recommend this item to anyone looking for a few more cubic feet of cargo space for their journeys

I was attracted to the capacity, waterproof status, compactibility and price of this unit. It impressed on all counts. It was easy to use, is well made, folds to a relatively compact size and deems durable indeed. Highly recommended.

We used this on two long trips this summer, and on both trips we encountered extreme heat and heavy downpours. Everything emerged unscathed and we had no problems with the clips opening up in the heat, which I was a little worried about from other reviews I read. The bag is very thick with good quality zippers, which is probably why everything stayed dry. Some of the items we stuffed in it had sharp corners and the bag withstood the stress. It's tough. We got the larger size and I'm glad we did -- you never know when you'll need that extra space, and when you need it you really need it (I was a little concerned it would be too big for our '03 Honda CRV, but it fit perfectly fine). It's also very easy to put on, take off, and load. It was also really nice to be able to just fold it up and leave it in the back of the car after unloading it at our destinations or in the garage when we got home -- takes up very little space which is a big plus over the plastic carriers. When packed full we didn't even need bungee cords to strap it down, and there was no flapping. When not full you need to crisscross bungees across it and tuck in empty spots, but it's no big deal. The only marginal negative is that the bag really doesn't maintain the shape you see in the pictures unless you load it with a big trapezoid, so in practical use this bag isn't any more aerodynamic than any other and will knock about 3-5 mpg off your gas mileage. It just looks like a big lump on top of the car like all the other roof bags. So it's not pretty, but it sure gets the job done and is very easy to use and live with. I'm extremely happy with it overall and would recommend it highly.

I used this for a 1000 mile trip to the beach. It performed well and did not leak. I drove through some downpours with no leaks. The downside is the velcro is tough to deal with while zipping closed. But when closed it help keep the zipper water proof. The size I bought was too large for my Sienna roof system, but it still worked fine. Ed in KY

I BOUGHT THIS BAG FOR SOME EXTRA LUGGAGE ROOM FOR THE TOP OF MY EXPEDITION. I USED IT JUST THIS WEEKEND AND FOUND IT TO BE VERY CAPACIOUS AND WATERPROOF - AS WE FOUND OURSELVES IN A FREAK SNOW AND RAIN STORM HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHILE i WAS TRAVELING WITH THE BAG FULL AND EVERYTHING STAYED COMPLETELY DRY. i DID ELECT TO USE AN ADDITIONAL TIE STRAP ACROSS THE MIDDLE TO MAKE SURE THE LOAD DIDN'T SHIFT DURING TRAVEL. i AM PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT
