This device was easy to install and comes in handy for the long trips I tend to take with the family. My cars do not have a cargo rack and this device works great with or without it.

We found it easiest to fill the car top carrier by inserting stiff cardboard temporary sides while filling. The sides were then removed. Once the initial two suitcases were in place, it was easier to finish loading. Quick clip fasteners to join the two halves of each strap would be easier than threading the loose end all the way through the buckle.

Quality of the carrier is good, I would recommend the rubber matt sold separatley if you are placing the carrier on your roof top. Packing the carrier while it sat on the car top was the way to go, but managing to fill the sides out full was a little challenging as we used the carrier to carry two beach chairs, beach umbrella, a baby pack & play, two small duffle bags of clothes, plus bedding and other small soft items. To sheid the inside bottom from the chairs I used a piece of half inch foam board. We drove through light rain for three hours, and all was dry when we arrived. The straps held firmly, but make sure you tie off or secure any loose tag ends to avoid wipping. I also used a rope for backup, but it appears it was not needed. It takes alot of stuff to fill this carrier. Our car is a Pontiac Vibe and we mounted the carrier on a piece of half inch plywood secured to the aftermarket cross bars of our roof rack. Filled weight of the PackRight was within the limits of our vehicles carrier. Gas mileage dropped about 2 MPG.

This roof top carrier was very useful for carrying my daughter's stuff to a college in Canada. We drove 620 miles from maryland to Montreal. My car(SUB) has roof rail and cross bars. With all 4 straps harnessed, the carrier did not move at all although I drove a little fast between 70 to 85 miles per hour. Hoever, there was a continuous flapping noise coming from extra length of strap. I think I am going to try strong binder clips next time to hold the strap ends. I would recommend this product to friends who need extra cargo space when traveling.

I have a Mazda 6 and this was perfect for our trip to Longbeach, WA. Normally we have to take 2 cars but with the prices of gas these days that is not do-able anymore. Going down our first trip with the carrier was a learning experience so we where not familiar with how it should be packed so on the way back we learned that each corner should have a large tall item in it then may be shoes and small items to pack the small spaces in the corners. It would be nice to have a removable insert as they do with luggage (Hard plastic the size of the outer edge). This might keep it from puckering and flapping while traveling. I don't have a luggage rack so this worked well, but you must have the skid pad, but make sure no air is flowing while traveling. A skid pad would be nice if it where incorporated on to the bottom of the carrier. The straps can be tied if taken the time to go inside of the care instead of the outside flapping in the breeze. I like the carrier and it will be universal with both our cars.

As the owner of a 2007 Honda CRV with no roof rack, this carrier was the right answer for packing gear for a recent beach trip with four passengers int he car.

Although there was some noise when using this carrier, it was most likely due to not having the unit full when using it. It went up very easy, and was very secure. The non-skid mat was not placed quite right at first, but the only result was some additional noise. The carrier did not move at all. I would recommend this product to friends, although I would consider getting a smaller one for myself. This can hold a lot of stuff!

Really like this product. It was easy for me (35 yr old woman) to install while my kids (ages 4 and 9 mos) played in the driveway and I have had no problems with it. Haven't driven it in the rain yet, but I don't doubt that it will hold up just fine.

I used it on my 2006 Volkswagan Beetle, and it fit perfectly!!! I only lost maybe 2 mpg on my trip, yet the car was fully loaded with gear a great dane and two adults. We enjoyed all the attention from everybody too as we drove by!
