I purchased the cargo carrier, lockable lid and cargo Cover/bag. I just used the carrier on a 30 hr long round trip. Very easy to assemble and use. The cargo cover worked very well as we drove through several rainstorms and everything stayed perfectly dry. The cargo carrier easily held 3 - 4 large duffle bags and two carry on sized bags with no problem at all. This freed up a considerable amount of space inside our Chevy Tahoe and made for a more comfortable trip for all of our passengers.

Using the Carpod Cargo Carrier has allowed much more comfortable travel by allowing enough room for people traveling in our van to actually stretch their legs and keep them stretched. The rear carrier has eliminated the need for a car top carrier, which is cumbersome and difficult to use with a full size van. We have also been able to attach 2 children's bicycles to the top of the cargo carrier, further increasing our vacation activities.

Bought this to give use more room when we travel. When you have a large dog taking up the back area of our SUV, we needed room. It's construction is great, but with our hitch being low we had to buy a hitch dual hitch to raise it off the ground. Also bought the bag and rack top to lock up our belongings.

Used the Carrier for a trip from Phoenix,AZ to Newport Beach,CA. Held four suitcases no problem. Easy to set up and fold away. Did not effect handling of our Honda Pilot at all. Ordered the locking lid and travel bag as well, all performed as promised.

Do most people leave this on their car or do they take in on and off? Is is difficult to put on and remove?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Jul 06, 2012 2:23 PM
Hello Cathy. The Carpod easily attaches and detaches from the hitch mount, so you can take it off whenever it is not being used. Unless you always have cargo to tote (sports equipment etc.), it might be easier to navigate around town without the cargo carrier. Hope that helps!

How much clearance is there (if any) with a rear hatch door? I have a Ford Flex. Would the door even be operable?
