The value of the Surco Safari rack is hard to beat. I needed a basket that was wider than the typical 39 - 40 inches of most kits to clear Ham/CB antenna mounts. The kit has reasonably good instructions and extra hardware making the build quick and easy. Installation was more challenging - the channel system had screws that required shims to reach the square nuts - and finding a happy center took more effort than it should. The biggest negative was the spare tire carrier threaded rod; the paint should be removed before attempting to add a tire and wingnut. Otherwise the assembly will lock up due to caked finish paint. For a serious-looking reasonably durable rack that is half of the cost of many other systems, this one should not be overlooked.

The assembly took about 40 minutes. The directions could have been better but you can figure it out. Mounting was difficult due to the fact there are two seperate lower tabs for each track mount. If they had designed it as one lower tab that both fasteners went thru it would have made mounting it a one man job vs spinning/alligning two tabs into the track.
