It will prevent scratches to my roof, and that's why I purchased it.

We moved from DC to Pensacola FL and spent three nights on the road. The first day I used only the straps provided and ran them through the back doors. Of course the cargo shifted back a few inches. The rest of the trip I included a cargo strap just for piece of mind. I probably didn't need it but I had it so I used it. This carrier was exactly what I needed and held a good amount of stuff. The one draw back about this carrier is that my mileage dropped 9MPG. Too much wind resistance.

I purchased this cargo carrier for my pick-up truck because I do not like the look of a tonneau cover. This carrier is perfect for my needs. It is huge - we stored two large suit cases and two duffel bags plus all the other accoutrements of a vacation. It rained and snowed lightly on the first trip and the bag kept everything dry. It did not flap around at all in the back of my truck and actually improved gas mileage a bit! Make sure it is in position before filling it up.
