An OK solution / alternative to a roof storage box

Reviewed By Michael C (Vancouver, WA) Reviewed for a 2009 Volkswagen Touareg —12/15/2012 9:30 PM

Ordered this because my wife is short and wouldn't be able to reach a storage box on the top of our Touareg and we saw an RV with one of these boxes this fall and thought this would be a great alternative. The metal frame is very sturdy, however, the plastic container feels flimsy / weak. We have yet to really test this with significant weight, but running nearly empty it seems to ride quiet. The container is lockable, but does not come with a hitch lock (the Thule hitch lock is $40+... ouch)

Love having the extra storage!

Reviewed By Kenneth J (SHEPPARD, TX) Reviewed for a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee —8/4/2016 6:16 AM

Our order arrived quickly and the product is exactly what we needed. Our grand Cherokee needed extra room and I didn't want to shell out $1000 for a roof rack. There's only one problem... One of the pins to hold the sides up will not come out. I've tried everything and it's still stuck in there so it cannot be folded up.

It Worked

Reviewed By Darren F (Rialto, CA) Reviewed for a 2013 Ford Flex —8/1/2016 10:32 PM

Decent cargo carrier. Folding shank is pretty useless though. You have to unscrew the main bolt that holds the carrier to the shank if you want to fold it up then rescrew the bolt back into place. Too much work, would rather just pull the carrier off when not in use. Wish I had bought the carrier that had the angled shank because every time I pulled into a driveway of any sort the carrier would scrape on the road. I know you're supposed to angle in but even doing that I would still scrape.
