Had a lot of rain on trip down east coast, arrived at destination and had one little tiny spot of wet inside. The Velcro is nice but unless contents are all the same height it's hard to keep 100% of the velcro connected. I'm not tue best packer so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. It's a great but for tue price. Maybe add stronger tie downs for it? I ended up using a ratchet strap in addition to provided ones, just to be sure.

we just took a 650 mile trip with our new car top carrier. what a convenient way to add more luggage space. it worked great. the only problem we ran into was packing it the night before we returned home and leaving it outside. unfortunately it rained alot and water wicked into the car via the straps(our car is such, that we had to fasten it running the straps through inside the car). once we started moving no other water came into the car. so if you want to pack it the night before either put it in the gararge or cover it with a tarp. also be sure to put your car top items in large garbage bags for extra protection from rain.

The pack takes a bit of trial and error when first trying to strap to the rack and hatch door. This is because the pack is huge and when empty can be a bit flimsy. I find it helps to have a workbench or a bumper high table to set the pack on to give it stability when mounting and also to have it half filled to figure out the correct tension. With that in mind, I plan to keep in mounted during my entire trip. Once firmly strapped in, it is a great tote.

We packed it full of sleeping bags and other soft items for our camping trip and then threw it up on the roof. It is easy to attach and it folds compactly when not in use. We were able to fit five sleeping bags, five air mattresses, three backpacking pads, a tarp and a couple of small blankets in this carrier. It essentially is like having a second trunk.
