We are so glad we purchased this product! It's a great alternative if you dont have a roof rack. My husband put it onto the rooftop (we have a CRV) and packed it from there. Make sure you stuff the corners with anything you have loose to keep it packed tight. We used sneakers, beach towels, things we were taking anyway. It holds alot of stuff - we had a big, a medium and a smal suit case, other bags, beach chair, tent and baby's stuff. We would have neer fit it all in the car with our baby and dog in tow. It took him a few hours the first time between packing it and putting the straps on. But once he got the first time done, packing and strapping it back up for the way home was much quicker. Took him about an hour. Recommend reading the instructions, it will save you time! It stayed on great for the 2 and 1/2 hour drive, didn't budge, and made no noise at all. We didn't purchase the pad or the any extras for it, works great as is! Definitely recommend!

I purchased this to relocate my daughter from NJ to LA. We packed it with her clothes and strapped it to her Civic. On several days we drove through severe downpours, and I was worried. But, when we dared to unzip it, it was bone-dry inside! A CLEAR picture of how the buckle and straps work is needed. It was difficult for me to figure out. Purchase the mat if you don't have a roof rack; it's important for a secure fit. In heavy rain the straps can wick water and drip; bring some towels in case.

All in all this car top carrier worked for us, but the straps it came with were too flimsy for our 4000 mile move. We ended up using a set of ratchet straps from Home Depot, and that worked great. About halfway though our trip we noticed the front passenger corner of the carrier was beginning to rip, even though it was fully packed as per the instructions. All in all it was worth the money, but you certainly are getting what you pay for and nothing more.

I didn't need an extra large bag and I wanted it to fit the inside dimensions of my Jeep Grand Cherokees roof rack. The size was just right. I packed four duffel bags and had a room for a little more. The directions were sewn into the storage bag which I liked. It took me a bit to figure out how to secure the straps but soon had it figured out and strapped down tight.

I recently relocated from Virginia to California. I purchased the cartop carrier to take those things my wife just could not part with. During the 3,000 mile trip we ran into a snow storm, rain, and high winds. The carrier was fully packed. The only time I had a scare was when an unusually high gust of wind moved it two inches. I got out, adjusted the placement, tightened the straps, and continued on my journey. I adjusted my speed to that of towed vehicles, and had a very pleasant trip.

The carrier was great and large enough to fit 2 big suitcases as well as other smaller bags which saved a ton of space for items in the car. We bought the protective pad for the rooftop and didn't use it after the first trip because it was really noisy and didn't do much. With a clean roof and by packing flat things on the bottom, you really don't need protection if you do a good job of securing the carrier.

The carrier worked exactly as billed - easy to install, stays attached without slipping or flapping, extremely weathertight. It's a solid but all-around. After a ten hour drive north from NC to upstate NY in December, in the rain and wind, I can vouch for the sturdiness and ability of this carrier to keep every item we packed in it secure and dry. I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase.
