Surco Safari Roof Rack Reviews

Reviewed by Theron J (Longmont, CO) Reviewed for a 2004 Hummer H2 — 2006-04-17 07:23:50

The only real disappointment was their selection of hardware and lack of instructions. I would have liked to seen some sort of knob system to attach the basket to the roof track. Since adding this to my 2004 H2 I cannot get this into my garage so the knob system would be great for easy removal. I tried using the supplied Phillips head screws and trying to hold the threaded plate was a pain because the screws were to short. I ended up getting a bunch of socket head cap screws about 3/8" longer then what was supplied. I also was disappointed with the instructions that came with the system. It only had 3 pictures on it and very limited instruction both on one page. I am a mechanical engineer so for this to be lacking for me was a lot. One thing I would recommend would be to install the cross bars on the car first then once the basket was assembled install that and move the cross bars accordingly then attach the basket. I would also recommend that you put this together on a pair of saw horses to save your back, there are a lot of screws. I also ordered the light attachment brackets and did not see any where in the description that they came in pairs so I ordered 2 extra boxes. The brackets where pretty straight forward to install. I ordered the 100” x 65” basket as well as the ladder and found out once I tried to open my rear hatch the ladder hit the basket so I had to loosen all the mounting screws and move the basket forward. I am taking a trip to Canada this summer and during our drive I will encounter over 200 miles of poorly maintained dirt road that is usually pretty rough so I will let you know how the rack handled the drive.

Yakima LoadWarrior Cargo Basket Reviews

I like my Yakima Load Warrior Cargo Basket with extension even though I believe it is over priced. It assembled relatively easily and can be put on or taken off in minutes. I did find that it cost me about four miles per gallon until I took of the front deflector. Then it cost me only about two miles per gallon.

Thule 690 MOAB Cargo Basket Reviews

Just put on the cargo basket and there is no more smelly lacross equipment in my car! It is so easy to throw the equipment bags and the net over it and off we go. I wish I had gotten it sooner! Well worth the money! I cant wait till we go camping and the jeep is no longer crowed.
