Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will my seat covers fit well?

Custom fitments for your seatsAll of our custom seat covers will fit your seats marvelously well. These high-quality seat covers are made-to-measure, which means that they will cover your exact year, make and models seats, while still leaving access to any on-seat controls, such as lumbar supports and built-in seatbelts. They even make space for your side impact airbags if your vehicle has them.

Our semi-custom seat covers fit about 80% as well as the custom seat covers, but they do cover over most on-seat controls and side impact airbags. The exception to this semi-custom rule is that 3 Star Semi-Custom Sheepskin Seat Covers do have cutouts for seat controls and airbags.

As their name implies, universal seat covers fit over any high-back or low-back bucket seat. Rather than being form fitting like the custom and semi-custom, the universal seat cover drapes your seats with a protective barrier that's solely designed to deliver tough protection for your seats.

2. What is the difference between a custom seat cover and a semi-custom seat cover?

Custom fitments for your seatsThe clearest analogy is to think of a custom seat cover as a tailor-made suit, and a semi-custom seat cover as an off the rack suit. A master tailor crafts a quality suit only after painstakingly measuring the client's whole frame, taking every contour, curve and length into account. Likewise, our custom seat covers fit over your car seats precisely, leaving access to ergonomic controls, seatbelts and any other seat-mounted controls.

On the other hand, an off the rack suit still fits your frame, but not as well as a tailored suit. Rather, off the rack suits are crafted from patterns, and the patterns come from average measurements of similarly sized bodies. The same is true for semi-custom seat covers. They will fit over your seats as well as over other car, truck, SUV and van seats. A rule of thumb is that a semi-custom seat cover will fit about 80% as well as a full custom seat cover.

3. What if I have side impact air bags on my seats?

Seats with side impact airbagsDriving can be a risky business, but auto manufacturers are constantly creating novel ways to make our vehicles safer. One such innovation is side impact airbags (SIPS). These airbags are mounted directly on the side of your car seat, and they protect your head from hitting your side windows or door jam in an accident.

If you do have side impact airbags on your car seats, you will need to get either a set of custom seat covers or the 3 Star Semi-Custom Sheepskin Seat Covers. The custom seat covers and the 3-Star seat covers can be manufactured to accommodate side impact airbags, covering your seats without blocking the airbags. Universal seat covers and most of the semi-custom seat covers will get in the way of this valuable safety feature.

4. Are seat covers difficult to install?

Seats with side impact airbagsThe vast majority of seat covers simply slide over your seats and are held down with Velcro, hooks or straps that attach under the seat and are our of sight. You should not need any tools to install them. Front seat covers are generally easier to put on than rear seat covers because front seats are more accessible. Typical installation on front seat covers is 20-30 minutes. Rear seat in a car may require removal of the seats to install the seat covers. Detailed instructions will be included. Rear seats on an SUV will typically be a similar install to front seat covers.

5. How do I clean my seat covers?

Because seat covers are crafted from a wide array of materials, there are many different ways to care for them. In general, you will want to vacuum you seat covers regularly to pick up any dry spills or tracked-in dirt. To keep sheepskin seat covers fresh and fluffy, just give them an occasional brushing. Many of the seat covers are machine washable, too. These include: all of the Canine Covers, the Cotton Canvas Seat Covers and the SeatSaver Seat Covers. 9. What makes the sheepskin seat covers so special?

Sheepskin covers are the finest, softest, most luxurious seat coversStarting with only the finest, softest, most luxurious New Zealand and Australian sheepskin pelts, the master craftsmen at Blue Ribbon Motoring expertly cut, tailor and stitch what are arguably the highest quality sheepskin seat covers on the market. Of course, it's hard to go wrong when you start with excellent ingredients. Sheepskin is known as "Nature's Thermostat" because the downy wool keeps you warm and toasty in the winter and cool and dry in the summer. In fact, each hollow wool fiber can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture, so your back won't feel clammy like it can against leather, vinyl and cloth. And if that wasn't enough, wool is actually stronger than steel, ounce for ounce. So these seat covers will last years, protecting your seats below and making driving cozy for you above.

10. How thick is the wool on your sheepskin seat covers?

Depending on which quality sheepskin seat cover you choose, the thickness of the wool ranges from 7/8" to 1 3/8". Because our sheepskin seat covers are so thick with wool, air can flow between your body and your seat. This keeps you dry and comfortable, even during the balmy summer months.
